April 9, 200620 yr Hello all,I would like to buy MDmax (full package) but still few issues which I need to clarify. I have tried to email developers but no luck with reply sofar.I would highly appreciate feedbeck on following issues:- In terms of system modelling MDMax is on par (or even ahead?) with LDS/PMDG?- Flightmodelling is acceptable, maybe excellent?- Frame rates comparing to other complex sim's? - Product is more or less patched; are there major issues not being solved by now?- Navdata - how complete it is? Are there Sid/Star's for EU area especially also smaller airports in Finland&Sweden&Norway?- If no Sid/Star available is it difficult to write one myself?- Anything else I should be aware at this point?- I suppose no review available anywhere?Best Rgs & Thanks for the help! Perttu
April 9, 200620 yr Hi,I bought it when it was released more than a year ago, and it's the first add-on I really regret to have bought. The intial release was very basic and they promised to release enhancements within 2 months, well after 6 months still nothing had happened.System wise it is good, graphics wise it's like a FS98 panel. They used their original FS98 graphics as basis.IMO it is *very* overpriced, but you have to decide that for yourself.Support is bad (at least last year) and therefor I'm not surprised you still didn't received a reply on your email. If I were you, I would take a look at LAGO's MD80.Disclaimer:I don't use this panel since a long time anymore, nor did I visit their support forum anymore, so maybe a lot of things have changed for the better. I wouldn't know. April 9, 200620 yr Wow, goes to show you how different folks view things. I also purchased the MDMax when released. The initial release had a few bugs (as most do) but no show stoppers for me. If you are into systems modelling etc it is VERY good. Yes, the graphics are not up to par with some of the other offerings but that wasn't where the developer put his main efforts. The package was developed to be as close a representation of a MD as he could make it as far as systems, workflow etc.I have also had great support from the developer when I needed it. I usually shoot an e-mail and get a response within 24 hrs.
April 9, 200620 yr Hi George,Thanks for the comments. I think it is only fair that we all have different objectives with this hobby. What you are saying is more or less why I am looking to buy this add on.However could you let me know your views on following items:- Navdata - how complete it is? Are there Sid/Star's for EU area especially also smaller airports in Finland&Sweden&Norway?- If no Sid/Star available is it difficult to write one myself? - Is it possible to enter fix into FMC?and- How is the sound environment with MDmax? I do not favor pure engine sound modelling but realistic LDS style complete environment.Navdata issue is important since I would be flying mainly with fantastic FISD freeware scenery in Finland and also other smaller airports (ESGG, ENBR...) in Nordics.Happy flying & Thanks for the help. April 9, 200620 yr Hi,I don't have the MDMAX, but all Maddog Products (MDMAX, LAGo MAddog, Flight1 SuperMD80) were recently reviewed by an Austrian MD pilot in the German Flightxpress magazine. The conclusion was that the LAGO Maddog is the most consistent when it comes to practical real world operation and procedures. He didn't find any reason to pay that much for the MDMAX.Here's another review by a former SAS MD82 Captain :http://www.hilmerby.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=422The sound environment is also excellent. The LAGO Maddog procedures contain EFHK, EFIV, EFJO, EFKU, EFMA, EFRO, EFTP, EFTU, EFVR.Hope this helps (to save money :) )Mike
April 11, 200620 yr Hello again,No MDmax drivers around? If pls see my q's from above. Comments highly appreaciated...Funny enough - no reply from developers to my 3 emails :-( ...Best Rgs Perttu
April 11, 200620 yr I am very happy with the flight1 Super80, granted it does not have EFIS, it is all fashion navigation, although you can import flightplan and use the ONS and PNS systems, I guess the grandfather to LNAV & VNAV :)...RegardsJohn
April 11, 200620 yr Perttu,I bought it, I like it. Great product, but you will have to fly it right, or you will get frustrated. This one is supposed to be as realistic as it can get. They had some minor bugs that have already been addressed. I actually posted some screenies a while back, you might want to do a search in the screenshot forum (may not have the pics anymore though). Hope this is of some help,Here's a few I had laying around:http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/147003.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/147004.jpgregards,Macs :)
