I recieve the error message "A fatal error occurred". This has been happening ever since I set up a new cfg (I will also post it so it can be checked) and a profile in NVIDIA Inspector. It is not just a one off, it has happened every time I launched the sim and there is nothing in the error log that I find useful, anyway below is the error log:

The Affinity Mask tweak is most likely the cause.  Have you tried renamed your p3d.cfg to p3d.cfg.off, restart P3D and see if this has fixed the problem?  Fixes most.  If you have Windows 10, you are using all of your CPU cores.  Why are you trying to tweak that?

Have you upgraded Windows 10 to the latest version (if you have Windows 10 installed). 

Your crash shows it was caused by an unknown module.  The module could be one of the modules loaded at startup via your two dll.xml's (one in the p3d.cfg and one in the scenery.cfg folder).  If renaming your p3d.cfg did not solve your problem, then your next step is to rename the dll.xml's and see if that fixes your problem.  If it does, then you need to find out which module in the dll.xml is causing the crash.  Detailed guidance in the AVSIM CTD Guide starting on page 9 (see link to guide in my signature).

Right, thanks a lot. I did not tweak it myself so if you can tell me what to change regarding the cores in win10 I would be grateful thanks and I am yet to test your suggestions. I will let you know ASAP.

Another bit of possibly useful information, the crash happens when I try to launch another app, normally FSWX or Vpilot while I am on the sim and when Prepar3D launches the desktop goes black

This is a new error log after upgrading my Prepar3D.cfg and again appeared after I clicked off the window.

 

The program Prepar3D.exe version 3.2.3.16769 stopped interacting with Windows and was closed. To see if more information about the problem is available, check the problem history in the Security and Maintenance control panel.

Bad parameters or at least, in my P3D.cfg, it is false or true.  Not sure if this makes a difference but strange your config is showing numerical and mine letters.  It's another reason why deleting or renaming the P3D.cfg fixes most crashes/freezes.  You have version 3.2 of P3D and I have version 4.1 but I have never seen these parameters set numerically.  Even in FSX.  In your original config, these parameters are correctly shown as true or false.

This crash report shows absolutely no useful information other than you have P3D installed in the default folder and under total control of Windows.  Most experts recommend installing P3D to a folder such as:  C:\Prepar3D v3.2.  See AVSIM Prepar3D Guide.

Hi, thanks a lot and I have seemed to have resolved the issue of the CTD, HOWEVER now every time i click on P3D while loading (bear in mind this didn't happen before unless I clicked multiple times) the application hangs. I have had no issue regarding the first CTD but this application hang is a major problem, it has happened multiple times, thanks.

The CTD Guide shows causes of apphangs while loading (near back under probable causes).  When you first start up P3D, it loads all of your modules (those in the dll.xml's).  After setup, it loads the scenario and more modules, AI, textures, etc.  Most hangs occur while loading the stuff in the dll.xml's (remember there are two).  Pages 14 and 15 show you how to disable them individually if you determine there is a problem with the dll.xml (you find that out by renaming the dll.xml's, restarting P3D and checking to see if this fixes the problem).  If a module has been updated to fix a bug, the old one will usually slow down loading, sometimes crashing, sometimes loading everything and crashing later.

Great news!  Hopefully it will stay like that but, unfortunately, we do a lot of tweaking and adding things to our flight simulators and things go bad quite often.

Hi, Jim. Bad news. The issue has returned however GOOD news I am CERTAIN this is not caused by the CFG as I deleted it and it rebuilt a new one and the issue still persists. I also followed the guide for the xml’s etc and the issue is still there. Thanks once again for your time.

I'm sorry but I have no other solutions other than what's in the guide.  If the guide did not fix it, it cannot be fixed.  The only way to fix an apphang is to eliminate all addon scenery (by renaming the scenery.cfg and disabling ALL add-on.xml's; renaming the two dll.xml's and renaming your p3d.cfg.  One of them is causing the apphang.
