In regards to the mud flats, I got to meet and have the rare opportunity to fly with a great and renown aerial photographer/pilot (who has now passed on) named William Garnett back in the mid 80's while I was living in Napa.  He had a polished silver aluminum 50's vintage four place Cessna that he'd take us up in, in exchange for me and my friend putting in some grunt work on cleaning the aircraft up for him.  We were told by other pilots in the FBO that he never invited anyone up in his aircraft, and they were stunned and humorously jealous.  Among Bill's favorite subjects were the mudflats immediately to the west and south of Napa County Airport.  He took us up at sunset while I photographed the mudflats, and I got a gorgeous picture that still hangs in my ex-wife's home of the mudlats with the sun glinting off the water, kind of like the pics I took the other day from Xplane of the sun off the San Francisco bay.  You can read more about William in the link below--his pictures were published in every major magazine, from LIFE to National Geographic, and he had some books published that one can still get online.  Quite a few examples of his aerial artistry are found in the link, including one of the Napa River Delta.  :

Appreciate the comment...The strip of bad land between the flat farming area and the coastal mountain ranges has unusual texture and color!

Many thanks for commenting....I have seen some of Garnett's work...coastal mud flats have a kind of abstract art...similar to the UK and Ireland have a bog that can be bright green to black in color!
