>But you must admit that as noted above mtrl9* and mtrl9*.*>should yield at least as many if not more than mtrl9*.zip,>which for some reason is not the case. ???? I don't want to>belabor the point, but I must admit confusion.I tried all three searches (I take it you put them in the "file name" field in the extended search form?) and got 5 results everytime. Did I do something wrong? :)Regards,http://www.bremmekamp.com/img/misc/avsim.jpg

That's not the result I get. Where are you doing your search from? I am doing the search from the "Quick Search" field.Remember, this is only an example of what is inconsistent about the search engine. True, in this particular instance, having done the search several times, I know what I am looking for. But many times I don't know what I am looking for.Thomas[a href=http://www.flyingscool.com/FC_StartJava.html] http://www.flyingscool.com/images/Signature.jpg [/a]I like using VC's :-)

>That's not the result I get. Where are you doing your search>from? The extended search as described in my posting before yours. ;)I tried it in the Quick Search now. Seems the input there is only interpreted as a filename if you append .zip to it. Else you only get the only download which also mentions mtrl9* in the description.Quite sensible come to think about it, but would be nice if it was mentioned somewhere.Regards,http://www.bremmekamp.com/img/misc/avsim.jpg

Sorry, just did a quick read and saw all three, got 5 everytime, my eyes never made it to the right hand side of the message :(Hmm, wonder if that is what the search engine is doing :)Thomas[a href=http://www.flyingscool.com/FC_StartJava.html] http://www.flyingscool.com/images/Signature.jpg [/a]I like using VC's :-)

I have to agree AVSIM's search engine leaves a lot to be desired....certainly searching for FSPainter and American Airlines will not reveal my AAL/FSP paints. :)

Searching for FSPainter* and American Airlines does though. :)But there's definitely room for improvement. IMO wildcards at the beginning of search words should be scrapped and those at the end of words should be added implicitly. This would result in a much more "normal" and intuitive search behaviour. The "?" wildcard shouldn't be necessary either as it's seldomly used (if at all).Regards,http://www.bremmekamp.com/img/misc/avsim.jpg

I don't want to beat a dead horse here, but, Wait a second, I use ? all the time.I agree, if the load on the engine is too great, that beginning * wildcard could be let go.I agree that ending * should be implicit. What about middle *? - like FS*American (perhaps bad example, but you know what I mean, let's not fight over nitty details of particular examples)I believe that fuzzy search similar to Google would be nice.Thomas[a href=http://www.flyingscool.com/FC_StartJava.html] http://www.flyingscool.com/images/Signature.jpg [/a]I like using VC's :-)
