can you feel the turbulence?!

Featured Replies

lol I mentioned this as a comment in another call not expecting a response but was kindly pointed to the following link:-http://www.flightsim.com/cgi/kds?$=main/review/bk.htmThis allows you to feel rumbling etc through the seat via forced feedback. However, it doesnt do precisely what i am after. I wonder if there is someway to distinguish turbulence in FS into actual force feedback via such a device? anyone ever thought about this? In FSpassengers Dan created something that knew when you went through turbulence... so with that in mind it must be possible to create the effect of turbulence but through your chair. no/ yes / maybe / dont care? look forward to your points.

I felt it once when I was using FS9 and there was a small earthquake here, lol (it is true).Leo

Hehe. Where do you live Leo?I`m in Wellington in New Zealand and have had the same experience..

lolonly when the wife puts on the HOOVER..luckily for us...No major earthquakes here in the UK steve

nah - best i could hope for was a spell of flactulance brought on by a curry :) lol serious though - is it possible?

well - i wanted to reopen this out in the hope for any technical member to explain whether this is even possible.

Hi Andre.I don't own one.. But I am looking at getting one too after reading Par's post. (the one I linked). And yes.. it is sound based. It has been used in Home theaters for a while. Here are some reviews.http://www.ifcglobalnetwork.com/review/kicker/kicker.htmhttp://www.flightsim.com/cgi/kds?$=main/review/bk.htmhttp://reviews.cnet.com/ButtKicker_LFE/450...-2.html?tag=navYou may also post on that Par's thread I gave. He'll answer your QsManny

OK, here is a thought (and don't expect much more than that because I have none of the skills to implement this!). We know there are gauges that can sense turbulence (FSPassengers as you point out). Couldn't someone make a similar gauge that would emit a low frequency sound when hitting turbulence, maybe with the sound of things rattling a bit? Then Buttkicker couldn't translate it into something you can feel. Being a real-world pilot, I can say that no simulator short of a Level-D sim can really create the feel of even mild turbulence. In fact, the planes in FS don't bounce around nearly enough but if they did I'd probably barf!David

Thanks all for the comments.I think that this is definately a possible project for me... all i need to do is find a way to convert FS depicted turbulence into low frequency and patch the buttkicker to pick this low frequency for larger vibrations. interesting. Has anyone any knowledge on how Real Airline Simulators convert the turbulence into lateral and horizontal movement or even do you have a contact on the subject?
