January 22, 20188 yr Now that I have FSX Steam working pretty well I thought I'd reinstall P3Dv4 again and see how it works with my new computer. I downloaded the latest version. I had a chart for all the settings I used before and had MSAA set to 4 samples. But now I have a choice of MSAA or SSAA. What is SSAA and which one should I use? Also, what is a tessellation factor and what should it be set at. My old chart says to set it at medium. Noel The tires are worn. The shocks are shot. The steering is wobbly. But the engine still runs fine.
January 22, 20188 yr MSAA And SSAA are different kind of anti aliasing technique. short answer, MsAA is less pretty but also way less demanding (aka, in overcast condition, or dynamic lights), and SSAA is more pretty, more demanding. Depending on your resolution, you might decide to use non. anyway: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anti-aliasing And about tesselation, yes, start with medium, that is a good idea, and see how high the GPU usage is.. January 22, 20188 yr Author Thanks Victor. Last night I flew around the San Francisco Bay Area (Orbx NCAL) trying them all out. I am using My Traffic set to 50%. I didn't see a whole lot of change between the settings. I settled for Texture Ultra 4096x4096, Anisotropic @ 16x, Tesselation Factor High, and 8xSSA. Things looked pretty nice. My frame rates didn't get below 20 (landing at KSFO with airliners at most of the gates). No skips or pauses. Mind you I only fly during the day with clear weather with a layer of 1/8 cirrus at 36,000ft to give the sky a bit of texture.
