May 16, 200620 yr hello i am sure this has been coverd before but i have been instaling and uninstaling scenery and am now gewtting warning notes poping up when i start fs2004 , they are as follows = = scenery cfg file error /local scenery area 143 etc etc could some one please tell me how to get rid of these anoyinfg things .thanking you in advance Bryan
May 16, 200620 yr Do you only get the error on the entry for 143, or do you get them for many other areas as well?I would first remove a few of the problem entries from the scenery manager to insure the errors go away. Then, add them in one at a time, checking after each one has been added to see that they are inserted properly. If they continue to fail, you may want to investigate your scenery directories to insure they have the proper formatting.Good luck!-Greg
May 16, 200620 yr Author Commercial Member Hi there, grab a copy of Steve Greenwood's scenery.cfg checker and it'll tell you (and fix) what is wrong with your scenery.cfg.http://www.fs-traveler.com/resources-g.shtml (third link from the top)Cheers, Holger
February 7, 200719 yr Hi All:Steve Greenwood's FS-Traveler (FST) utilities can now be found and downloaded at:http://home.earthlink.net/~smgreenwood/resources-g.shtmlHope this helps!;-)PS: It still works even on the FSX scenery.cfg file! :-) GaryGB
February 8, 200719 yr Is it just my suspicious nature but we've had a sudden flurry of seemingly FS2004 scenery problems from low-number posters all in the wrong (FSX) forum, all of which seem to be answered by referring to Steve Greenwoods FS-Traveler, all at the same time?Nice PR try, but the best spin doesn't reveal itself as such. Could you not just issue a press release? ;)Allcott

The posts were quite simply motivated by a desire on my part to help others. However to cater to your suspicious nature and in an effort to try and restore a sense of perspective here, may I also say that although I've had the opportunity to make the acquaintance of Steve Greenwood during my communications with him as a customer a couple of years ago, I have no past or present involvement with Steve's endeavors.I also believe it would have been more appropriate for you to have clicked on the link and browsed Steve's web site to see for yourself that one will not find any form of advertising or other commercially beneficial content there before concluding that the reason for my post and the existence of the web site was in some way intended to generate at the very least name recognition for someone.Following that line of thinking, a person who takes the time to post in the forums trying to provide help to other FS community members might be viewed as someone who is in some way trying to generate name recognition for themselves, and their motives might be perhaps suspect for that reason alone! In case you didn't know, Steve Greenwood has been a generous contributor to the Flight Sim community for a number of years, answering technical questions (most often helping other users trying to develop or work with terrain mesh in the Mesh forum) and often providing links to a wide variety of resources in addition to those on his own web site for quite some time if you care to check the search engine here at AVSIM.Speaking of links, here's a list of free downloads from Steve Greenwood at AVSIM:http://library.avsim.net/search.php?CatID=...&Go=Change+ViewBTW, an AVSIM forum search using "Steve Greenwood" as a query string (by Subject and message) that I pulled up when I tried to help seed the AVSIM search engine for more recent inquiries about Steve's Free FST Utilies and Tutorials will result in "Your search criteria returned too many topics. Only displaying first 135 pages"Oh, and I almost forgot... an AVSIM forum search using "sgreenwood" as a query string (by Author) will result in "Your search criteria returned too many topics. Only displaying first 123 pages."By comparison, an AVSIM forum search using "Allcott" as a query string (by author) will result in "1433 topics match your criteria", showing to date, 58 pages of 25 results per page.I don't know what criteria you might use to determine whether "sgreenwood" or "GaryGB" could be regarded as high or low "post number" individuals in your opinion, nor do I think that would be an appropriate basis to evaluate a person's motives for posting here.I do think it's inappropriate though, to refer to someone in that manner as though somehow perhaps their motives should be suspect because they are a "low-number poster", whatever that numeric threshold might be in your opinion. This was not a PR splash, and was not motivated by anything other than an attempt to try to help others who are currently looking for his excellent reference materials, which you may note were usually originally referred to by Holger, yet another generous contributor to the Flight Sim community for a number of years, who only recently began to offer commercial scenery add-ons in addition to the greater number of his excellent freeware offerings.I'm doubtful that Holger's references (most made during the time that Steve Greenwood's FS-Traveler 3rd party add-on FS terrain mesh was commercially available and I believe before Holger's own commercial products became available) regarding the availability of Steve Greenwood's tutorials and (FREE!) utilities were motivated by an effort to do a PR splash either, and I do happen to know that he has never had a business association with Steve Greenwood. Rather, as I understand it, Holger was once kind enough to provide his time doing free beta testing on some of the free utilities that Steve Greenwood continues to make available to the FS community via his relocated web site.Quite frankly, Steve Greenwood's products have not been commercially available for some time, nor do I know of any plans to make any FS-Traveler products commercially available in the foreseeable future.I don't think this particular kind of post (as quoted above) is likely to encourage people trying to help others in the AVSIM forums; I suggest it would be far more beneficial to the forum experience of all parties concerned if you would reconsider how you interact with people here in the future. To be fair, Allcott, I have enjoyed many of your posts which I have read, and I generally found them entertaining, informative, and on some occasions apparently motivated out of a desire to help others. In my opinion, this post in question does not do justice to the more admirable aspects of your nature.:-roll Discretion is the better part of valor! ;-)GaryGB
February 8, 200719 yr In my opinion, I don't understand what furtiveness prevented you from just opening a new thread like `normal` posters?. You could easily have cross-referenced those old posts in one new thread, and just explained as you have now done. Steve Greenwood is not,and was not under question here. YOU were, GaryGB of the 108 posts. Thanks for clearing that up.Machiavelli may not be your middle name, but forum layouts have changed since last year with the arrival of this dedicated FSX forum so when you replied to those old topics they ended up in the wrong place, kind of defeating your objective and purpose, tripling your workload.I don't have any admirable aspects to my nature, I'm a miserable old git who can't get enough time in the air in real planes, mainy thanks to workload and the bloody awful weather, can't get FSX to work as it should even on my system, and now with no prospect of it getting any better under Vista. Bah humbug!I also watched the Mel Gibson movie `Conspiracy Theory` on Channel Five the other night and thought it was a documentary. One ruined by advertisement breaks, one of which was for Windows Vista. I presume the ad sales people at C5 do have a sense of humour. ;);):)Allcott

Allcott Wrote:>Steve Greenwood is not,and was not under question here. YOU>were, GaryGB of the 108 posts.
