This plug-in is expansive and is not working at all

Today I received a message that I must update, so I run the update and the plug-in is not working anymore, so I decided to erase every trace of I and then re-install, when I try to re-intall I get an error saying that I am not connected, yet I was able to validate my re-installation from the server.

Hi,

We've just released the update with support for the latest Garmin GTN Trainer v6.41.1.

As for the RXP GTN Touch product value, I understand you might feel disappointed when the update process fails, but in the long run, this will certainly be the product you'll be flying the most, and for the longest time. We have customer of our GNS V1 still flying it nearly every day for the last 12 years!

Well, to be able to enjoy it, I must first be able to re-install the program, but for some reason when it is time to get the program from the server, I get told that I am not connect, when it just validated the install process from the server.

It is not what I would call a good start

Then the fact that the program can not use already made flight plan, nor can not save any flight plan because the location that the program is trying to access is a protected system location, that in order to access said location, I must be in System Administrator mode and must even then provide more authorisation for the location (C:/Program Data/Garmin/FLN), instead of using a normal location like Documents or even better X-Plane own OUTPUT/FMS Plans.

So I have to spend an hour before each flight to try to input navigation information in the device.

I wanted to give another try today, but that was completely sabotage by a force "update" that rendered the whole thing unusable.

P.S. my drive C: is reserved for the OS only

Hi, let me try to guide you through, but I'd need more specific details, because I can't relate what you are saying with the actual installation process:

What do you mean by server?
What program specifically tells you are not connected?
What do you mean by validated specifically?
What do you mean by install from the server?

Regardless of ProgramData specifics, "ProgramData\Garmin\" (like any other subfolder) is not a protected system location, it is only a hidden folder location. It is also the default location where the Garmin GTN Trainer installs its program data files (hence the name/location).

The more you'll practice the device, the faster you'll go. With experience you'd be able to enter a complex flight plan in about 5 minutes max. This is also where using 3rd party flight planning software like Little Navmap helps a lot: you plan on a desktop application with the confort of the big screen and the mouse, then, you export directly to the Reality XP GTN FPLN folder!

In addition, have you tried importing your 'fms' plans in LNM and then exported them directly as-is to the GTN?

When I try to re-install, I use the installation program that is on the realityXP web site, that then validate the installation, then it start a download from some server, and the it tell me that I am not connected and the only two choices are to re-try or cancel. No matter how many time I click on the re-try, I still get the same error that I am not connected, but in fact I can do anything I want to the Internet except for the installation of this program because it does not connect to it's server.

You are mistaken about Program Data, you can not access this location unless you are using an administrator account, and also provide an extra login to be able to access the location

As for the flight plans, even Little NavMap can not save the flight plan because it can not access the location where the program/device is trying to access.

You are talking about getting experience, it is not doable until the program is install, and beside, using this program/device, makes it impossible to save any of the flight plan, because again every time I tried to save it requires logins that you program does not let me enter anywhere, I always get a message from windows saying that administrator account is required to access Program data

Beside how do we contact the realityXP real support, as I can not find a link for on the web site

Ok this is clearer now, thank you!

Should the 'internet connection' error is '404', there is a message on top of this forum about this already. In short: there is a new trainer with a different download URL and we are releasing the update for it. NB: we are actually re-releasing it in a few hours with some late minute fixes that didn't get noticed yesterday night.

As for 'ProgramData', it is an error with the RXP installer when using GTN Trainer 6.41+. Thank you for having found this one, because the RXP installer is supposed to grant access rights to the specific trainer data subfolder to everyone for the very reason you are mentioning.

Otherwise, you can still move the data folder anywhere on any drive as long as you set  an environment variable to let the plugin know where to find it (see User's Manual for more details).

This is the official Reality XP Support Forum, but if you have very specific questions that wouldn't benefit any other customer, you can still PM me.

I checked some message group about your 404, and I have not seen anything that even come close to the problem I have, that the installation tells me that I am not connected to the Internet and can not proceed with the installation, it then give me the choice of RE-TRY or CANCEL, the RE-TRY keep send me into the error over and over. Since I must use the program that is downloaded from your web site, I can no longer install the program. (PS. I have re-downloaded the program from the web site and it still give me the same error after the validation)

BTW C; should be only for the OS and to install nay program, in my system the programs are all in D:, or in the case of X-Plane in G:, and the data is all on another drive as it should be (C: is always a Protected location, according to Microsoft)

To remove the folder for the previous installation, I had to use a boot CD with Linux on it so I could get access to all the REALTYXP and GARMIN folder that were scattered on my C: drive as the uninstall did not remove any thing

I think this whole thing would be better handle using a real support system like e-mail, as for the PM thing I have no idea what you are referring to

Let me try to explain the installation process so that we make sure we understand both what it is about:

  1. Run the e-commerce installer (red icon), purchase or select "reinstall" option.
This connects to the internet for license/key authentication.

  2. The e-commerce installer then extract the RXP software installer in "C:\RealityXP" and runs it.
  3. The RXP software installer then checks for Garmin Trainer installation and offers to download it.
  4. Upon approval, the RXP software installer pauses and downloads the Garmin Trainer installer.
This connects to the internet to the Garmin website.

  5. Once downloaded the RXP software installer then runs the Garmin trainer installer.
  6. Once installed the RXP software installer resumes and finishes RXP software installation.

Can you please let me know at which step it prompts you for the error?

PS: PM = Private Message

ok, I just re-tried it and it may have worked to some extend

Before, I was getting upto the second step, then it was telling me that I am not connected

the latest try, I get upto the end of the second step, but after that it never offer to download the Garmin stuff, if that part is not needed to run the plug-in in X-Plane 11, then I am ok with it, otherwise I am having one hell of a problem.

I forgot to say, that during the installation, it downloaded a new .zip file which it placed in the realityXP, I then unpacked the two files and ran the one for the 750,  and that is what led to the paragraph above

Ok, now it is starting to make sense to me and I can relate this to a pinned message in our forums, which title is:

That message is related to Windows 7, and I am with 10, but I did checked and those TTL were already in use before I checked

Update, after re-starting X-Plane11, the plug-in is installed, but even after turning on all the power including to the avionic and navigation system, the device is still completely black

This says it all.

To recap: the RXP GTN product is two headed: one head is the actual plugin which is the visible part (gauge bezel, screen, buttons, GUI Settings Panel etc...), the other head is the Garmin GTN trainer which is the 'core' simulation of this particular device.

Correct installation requires installing both the RXP GTN software, and the Garmin software. The RXP Installer auto-detects if the trainer is already installed and prompts you otherwise. Once agreed upon, the RXP software installer downloads and runs the Garmin trainer installer.

Therefore you must install the Garmin trainer.

During the installation, did the RXP software installer prompt you about downloading the Garmin Trainer?

Manual download and install will do fine as well:

http://download.garmin.com/software/GarminTrainerSetup_2100.exe

No during the installation, it went from downloading something and then strait to finish, but is never ask or installed the Garmin trainer.

After downloading the installer above, I ran it and it offered to install some product, hen I clicked the INTALL button and a few seconds later, it just closed and I had a FINISH button which the installer closed. but nothing is unning, even if the RUN WHEN FINISH was checked.

P.S. the installer was seeing that every product were already installed
