May 18, 200620 yr I've been looking for a way to enhance the scenery in FS and Ultimate Terrain was recommended by several people. My question is what exactly does UT upgrade? It is not obvious from what I read on the Flight1 website. My understanding is that it's not a mesh upgrade (I have FS Genesis for that). Does it upgrade the landclass data? What exactly does it do?Thanks.
May 18, 200620 yr It gives you more accurate coastlines and tries to give you correct landclass. Also if you are into roads and losing your autogen, it has an option for correct road placement, but I like my autogen and think the roads look out of place, so I don't use that option. You can also enable 3d light points at night, but you might take a hit in the FPS.Some say it's a must have, but I am on the fence, to many anomalies for me and only use it because most newer addons require it for correct placement. If you have used any of Holger Sandmanns addons, it's similar to that but on a bigger scale and not as fine tuned.Flight1 has a money back gaurantee, so best to make up your own mind.Regards, MichaelKDFWhttp://www.calvirair.com/mcpics/mcdcvabanner.jpgCalVirAir International Best, Michael KDFW
May 18, 200620 yr I can only advise about UT USA. I assume the other regional products are similar.1. UT USA provides a replacement landclass definition including replacement parkland.2. Provides replacement water body data (oceans, lakes, large streams).3. Provides replacement stream data (smaller streams) anda replacement desert stream (dry wash) texture.4. Provides replacement road data, including flatten ofmajor roads. It has the option to draw roads over water bodies (assumes the absense of bridges) or not.5. Provides night road lighting (can impact the amount ofother autogen displayed)6. Removes misplaced default scenery objects.7. Provides replacement railroads. The advantage is a higher level of detail and accuracy. The disadvantage is that any misplaced scenery objects should be moved. In most cases, photo scenery edges will align properly (roads in the photos will join the UT terrain-style roads. "generic" roads which are drawn as part of a landclass texture will not normally align and may cause some distraction.scott s..
May 18, 200620 yr Author UT, FSGenesis freeware mesh, and the FSGenesis landclass were the most important additions to FS I have made in my opinion. Having realistic water and terrain is just so important to my flying experience (I'm a GA pilot) because those features are very important in my own flying and having UT and accurate mesh has made FS9 super realistic to me. BEV runs right behind these items.Thomas[a href=http://www.flyingscool.com] http://www.flyingscool.com/images/Signature.jpg [/a]I like using VC's :-) Tom Perry
