Auto Gear Control

Recommended Posts

Is there a control available for GA so the gear auto-extend at say 500ft and retract at say 700 feet?  Also is this feature available in P3D anywhere?

Thanks

bs

Never heard of it. Any particular reason you want this?

No, there isn't.
But could be done in a very simple XML gauge you can add to a panel.cfg

If you PM me your EMail address, I'll mail you such a gauge and how to install it.

It's because I don't use checklists.

Ah, ok. But if you can remember to take care of the flaps you should also be able to remember to take care of the gear?  You don't need a checklist for those basic things, I'd say. But well, everyone has their own preference of doing things, of course.

I've just watched an episode of Ice Pilots last weekend :  2 unfortunate Turkish pilots would have loved such a gauge...

Such a feature would be more of a safety one rather than operational.  Most heavies have a warning I would like one for GA.  I usually forget the gear about 2x a year and get really depressed when I do.

Can you remember GUMP?

  • Gas
  • Undercarriage
  • Mixture
  • Propeller

a simple before landing checklist.

IMHO, having anything like that IRL could be dangerous - in the sim it could become a problem. The LAST thing I would want is for my gear to come down when I didn't want it.

Learn to use the mini checklist, when you forget and get depressed, use that to help you remember the next time. The idea is for you to pilot the a/c not be a passenger watching it do it's thing.

Try the GUMP acronym, see if it helps.

Try my freeware GPWS gauge then, available at :

http://www.sim-outhouse.com/sohforums/local_links.php?catid=213&linkid=23354

Works for P3Dv4.*.

Which will warn you for gear and a lot of other things, and includes Altitude callouts.
