Hello All!

I've been wanting to upgrade my GPU to a 1070 or 1080ti for my 4k monitor, however, the prices have gone up big time AND there are always sold out everywhere....What should I do?

Thanks!

Clem

I believe you can still buy directly from nVidia store. The prices are not great but are much lower than the retail stores.

EDIT just checked and nVidia store is out of stock too.

If you have a lot of desktop icons, I'd get an app called DesktopOK (http://www.softwareok.com/?seite=Freeware/DesktopOK) to save the icon positions so you don't have to potentially reorganize them after the card change. Before changing cards, uninstall the NVIDIA drivers and reboot. Once you're up and running with the default Windows graphics drivers, shut down and install the new card making sure to connect up the extra power leads. Make sure you earth yourself before starting to avoid any static damage to components. It's also worth taking the opportunity to give the system a complete spring clean paying particular attention to fan blades and coolers.

Download the latest drivers from https://www.geforce.com/drivers. I always go for the manual search/download as I've found that the GeForce Experience causes more issues than it has advantages. With your system back up and running, install the NVIDIA drivers using the "clean install" option. Sit back and enjoy your new card!

What do you mean by "to connect up the extra power leads"

Most modern graphics cards draw more power than the PCIe bus can provide. The extra power is supplied to the card directly from your PSU through 2 extra ( 8-pin and 6-pin) power connectors.
