March 4, 20188 yr Think the program has great potential, but struggling a bit with ATC picking runways not consistent with ATIS, but more importantly, selecting runways that don't "fit" the aircraft. Basically, I'm being asked to land or takeoff in an A320 on runways that are no more than 6000' long (and that's a best case scenario) while other, longer, runways are available. Any thoughts of selecting the ICAO of the aircraft to better determine takeoff / arrival runways? Thanks!
March 4, 20188 yr Commercial Member If the active runways are available from the SIM, and you don't have Force Pilot Runway Selection option checked, P2A will use the SIM runways....although most of the time, it is unable to pick up on the SIM runways as this is not always available. All else being equal, if weather is available when runways are selected, the runways best aligned with the wind will be chosen and if there is a choice of a long or short one with about the same heading, the long one will be chosen. However, that still leaves room for the short one to be chosen when winds favor it. You can specify Preferred runways in the Taxi Mnt screen and as long as the winds are not out of limits for those runways they will be selected first. You can even block selection of short runways, for example, so that they will never be chosen. If weather is not available when runways are being chosen, then there is the chance of getting a runway assigned that is out of alignment with the winds. For ultimate control over runway selection, check the Force Pilot Runway Selection option and either file a SID with your preferred runway or request it verbally when you call for Taxi and it will be assigned. And yes, using Aircraft performance characteristics is on the list of future enhancements. Dave Edited March 4, 20188 yr by Dave-Pilot2ATC
March 5, 20188 yr Author Thanks for the tips, Dave. And glad to hear you're considering the enhancements. One of the big reasons I purchased P2A was reading forums and seeing how engaged you are by listening to your customers. You're one of the few developers I've seen that does this. Truly refreshing!
