Late on this party, but I just set "Ctrl +"  and "Ctrl -" on my keyboard via CDU's setting menu to adjust mins, you can hold it much easier than use mouse in turbulence with TrackIR, and I do feel it is little faster than mouse, although not as fast as you hold the fast detent on real world's 5point switch.
