June 21, 200619 yr Hello I have a small FS problem. I have an FS9 install that is about 1 year old. I have numerous payware and freeware add ons. When I create a flight or flight plan, I can select an airport and a runway. If I have just started FS9, I can also select a ramp or parking spot (to start on). I only have that option once. If I select KAKR. I can start out on the ramp. But if I change my mind and deselect KAKR and change to KCAK, I no longer have the option of starting on the ramp (or parking space). The choice of Active Runway, and available runways are my only options. The ramps and parking area options disappear. All worked fine until I installed a large group of add on freeware sceneries (I should have left well enough alone:-) ). I checked my scenery config and the numbering appears ok. I also uninstalled all of that scenery. The problem remained. If necessary, I can be more specific. I am hoping that somebody else has experienced this and found a solution.I completed a search of the forums and could not find any mention of this particular problem. If anybody can help I would really appreciate it.ThanksNick
June 21, 200619 yr Don't know. This is something I have never seen. Sounds like some kind of database problem in the sim. Have you tried uninstalling it and reinstalling?Rob
June 21, 200619 yr Hi,Thanks for the reply. I have not uninstall/reinstalled and am truly hoping to avoid that. That is a lot of work. I hope somebody may have experienced this before, and found a less "time intensive" fix.If I cannot fix it, I will probably just live with it. I can still manually place the aircraft where I want it, and then save the flight. I am just a bit of a perfectionist, and like things to work the way they are supposed to. Sometimes that is just not possible when working with computers. Thanks for your time.Nick
June 21, 200619 yr Hi,In each of the scenery's main folders you will find a scenery.dat file. Remove as many of these as you can find (you can do a search to help). DO NOT DELETE YOUR SCENERY.CFG FILE! Do this even for sceneries you have deactivated in the Scenery Library. Now start up FS, it should rebuild it's database and then you can try it again.Hope this helps,--Tom GibsonCal Classic Propliner Page: http://www.calclassic.comFreeflight Design Shop: http://www.freeflightdesign.comDrop by! ___x_x_(")_x_x___ Tom Gibson CalClassic Propliner Page
June 23, 200619 yr Hi Tom,I gave your suggestion a try. Unfortunately it did not fix the problem. I just wanted to thank you for your response. I figured this was unique since nobody else has written about it. Who knows what I did to "break it".Thanks!Nick
June 23, 200619 yr nick:i don't know whether i will disappoint you or cause you to be elated: YOU ARE NOT ALONE. i sent in a query about 15 minutes after your original submission, with a slightly different title. my version of our problem is slightly different than yours. on the inital flight, each time i open the sim, everything is fine; all the runways and gates are available. after ending a flight and trying to create a new flight, the only runway which is available for many of the airports (?all) is the active runway. the sim is fine, apart from this quirk. i have not tested a huge number of airports so i cannot be sure if the issue is world wide in the sim. occasionally, the second created flight of the session is also ok, but usually i am in trouble at this point. if i completely close down the sim and reopen it, the problem is gone for the initial flight, but then reappears for subsequent ones.i have only recently done a complete reinstallation of fs9 and, like yourself, have been installing scenery with great abandon. i am up to area 525, and i don't think the problem appeared until well over 500 areas were installed. i am slowly trying to deactivate selected sceneries to see if the problem can be fixed. i am not optimistic, and may decide to live with the problem, as you seem inclined to do.so far, only tom gibson has suggested a fix (the scenery inactivation route). i will let you know whether i have any success, and will follow any further contributions from you.i have one question. you wrote in an earlier submission, that you can manually place your aircraft where you wish; could you explain how you do this?Good luck.steve chavin
June 24, 200619 yr Hi Steve,I know it has been said that misery loves company. But that is not the case here. I am sorry to see you having the same problem. I would prefer to make this little problem go away. But, it is not a showstopper. Somebody who has a solution may still see this thread and save the day. To manually place aircraft I simply use
June 26, 200619 yr Not sure if this helps. yesterday I flew to LFPG add-on scenery, Today I go to LFPG and no options under runway/start positions, I havetwo LFPGs to choose, but only one install of the scenery that I can find, try other airports and nothing under runway/start positions.I restart flight sim and don't go to LFPG and it is ok. I don't havelots of add-on scenery. Ken
December 6, 200619 yr I wanted to reopen this post just to say many thanks to Tom Gibson. I had this problem just today and with a fresh install of FS9 that's just one week old... took a week to install all my addons! I had had a problem with Bob Bernstein's Tacoma airport scenery and had deactivated it, I removed another AFCAD I had downloaded for the scenery and reactivated the scenery and moved it (along with several other scenery priorities) to a different order in the scenery library listing. After doing that I could only select active runway at any airport. I actually just removed the dat file from the addon scenery folder and the dat file from the Tacoma folder and that was enough to solve the problem. Great find Tom ;).PS. I actually spoke a little too soon. I did find that if I went back to James Shaddox's fantastic Randolph AFB in Texas (or started selecting too many airports it would happen again). Turns out I had a couple of duplicate AFCADs which once discovered stopped the problem. I still removed the dat files and no problem now.
