GTN 750 : erratic flight plan tracking

Featured Replies

Hello everyone,

I installed the GTN 750 sur le Carenado v1.2 Xplane 11.

TAKEOFF : LFMN (Nice) 22R SID IRMA6X.

However, I noticed that, during turns, the plane doesn't follow the route defined by the GTN 750. It starts the turns the wrong way, following the opposite of the GPS route.

Here is the demonstration in this video (6:00) : https://drive.google.com/file/d/13D0nEKtsvgSA1amgrG-VuBWnvsYXjhg_/view?usp=sharing

  • Example 1 at 1:20.
  • Example 2 at 4:10.

I don't think I can fix this. Could anyone please help me with this ?

Thank you in advance.

Best regards.

Hi,

Yesssssss !!!

The solution was given by the topic "GTN 750 - nav flag on HSI".

I had in Settings/Gauge Options/ VLOC source : Automatic NAV1.

I set Settings/ Gauge Options/VLOC source to: NAV1.

Now the plane slides perfectly on its route.

Thank you very much.

This one still eludes me, GTN 2.5 and GNS 2.4 code has been reviewed, and setting 'Automatic NAV1' is exactly the same as manually setting NAV1 ?!?!

I'm really wondering what is happening with this setting. Actually, if you revert back to 'automatic nav1' the issue returns? if you select again 'nav1' the issue is resolved?

I'd very much like you post the RealityXP.GTN.ini file then to see the other settings.

Hello,
sorry for not answering, I was in holidays.
I will do a test:
   1 / Back to Automatic NAV1
   2 / NAV1
And, I send you the RealityXP.GTN.ini.

Best regards

Which one do you want ?

I fly with the Carenado PC12.

Hi, each aircraft has its own 'ini' file, in this case (PC12), this would be the 2nd in your list!

I'm looking forward to your feedback about this, especially as we are preparing a new update for the final XP11.20 expected release soon.

You'll find here : https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/16xmKIarqYAHYlHRRs24SzeIns085OrfA?usp=sharing

The files named "01-…" are the .ini and the video which matches the option : NAV1.

The files named "02-…" are the .ini and the video which matches the option : Automatic (NAV1).

The files named "03-…" are the .ini and the video which matches the option : Automatic (NAV1) after I disinstalled the software, deleted the found 3 RealityXP.GTN.ini's, started again the machine and installed back the software.

NB : I'm showing the Settings menu in the videos.

Best regards

Thank you, I'm reviewing this.

Ok, now with the additional videos, I've an idea why this is happening:

In Monday's video, it looks like the GPS is anticipating the turn for 'fly by' waypoints, but as soon as it starts turning, it changes and treats this as 'fly over' waypoint. However, in today's video, it is flying a normal 'fly by' waypoint.

Now the questions:

- have you changed DB in between?

- Are you sure there was no flight plan loaded in the XPlane FMS/GPS with the same procedure but with XPlane DB registering the SID with 'fly over' waypoints?

Sorry I don't know what "DB" means.

I loaded the flight plan this way :  https://drive.google.com/file/d/1FERA3HQaLhYjX1pJ39Bvn8rASakLl4K1/view?usp=sharing

Help me !!! Problem since the reinstallation of GTN750 for tests above.

When I start the Carenado PC 12 engine on or off, in both cases the Garmin GTN 750 of the dashboard doesn't work. It's all in the video so you can watch it to see the problem. It includes the start of the engine, the mal-functioning problem (1:22) and the Settings menu (2:06).

Hi, 'DB' means 'Data Base'.

In this case I'm referring to the GTN database (not the X-Plane database).

As for the 'flight plan', I was referring to a probable X-Plane (not GTN) flight plan that would have been loaded and active in the X-Plane default GPS/FMS system. In effect, even though not visible a device on the panel, this doesn't preclude the underlying default GPS/FMS system to be active with a loaded flight plan.

What I was suggesting: is there a chance the same SID was loaded in the default GPS/FMS without you knowing, which would have made the A/P fly the same route but as fly over waypoints (bug in X-Plane DB) while the GTN was fighting to fly it as 'fly by' waypoints?

Otherwise, have you changed/updated the GTN database one way or the other which would have had the benefit of correcting a bug in the GTN DB between your 2 videos?

As for the last video, this most likely is the 'visible=' entry in the RealityXP.GTN.ini file which has turn to 'false' when reinstalling. Maybe a malformed ini file in the PC12 installer?

No and I have no saved flight plan.

As for the last video, this most likely is the 'visible=' entry in the RealityXP.GTN.ini file which has turn to 'false' when reinstalling. Maybe a malformed ini file in the PC12 installer?

I restored the 3 .ini files removed above.
It works !!! 😅

I'm glad you've restored the 3D cockpit screens!

We're still wondering why it was trying to fly a fly over waypoint in your first videos though.

Sometimes, there are errors in the DB. I don't have the service bulletin for the DB included with the GTN trainer 6.41, but the latest bulletin is here: https://avdb.garmin.com/docs/garmin_data_exclusions.pdf

This shows some entries in LFMN too!
