Weird graphical glitches on some Airports with ChasePl

Featured Replies

Hello,
i noticed on two Airports so far (FlyTampa Amsterdam Schiphol EHAM and JetStream Designs Palermo LICJ) some weird graphical glitches when i overfly certain areas on these Airports.

I posted topics in the specific airport forums to get help for this issue.

Now i figured out, that this happend only in ChasePlane Views. If i switch to the P3D Views, the flickering is gone.

Here is a Video to show the differences between the Views https://youtu.be/0pEo7pOfqfY
(At LICJ it is much worse)

Could you confirm this behavior? Or do i have some wrong settings either in P3Dv4.3 or Chaseplane?

Best Regards
Raller

This is caused by the ClipMode parameter of our camera definitions (read more about ClipMode here: https://www.prepar3d.com/SDKv4/sdk/cameras/camera_configuration.html).

To sum it up, Clipping in 3D application is a constant battle between far objects flickering and close objects clipping.

Our Outside cameras can be mounted to an aircraft wing or tail and to prevent the view from clipping too much, we have to set a ClipMode that enables you to be close enough so it doesn't clip while at the same time display sceneries correctly in the distance and reduce flickering.

This is not issue with the Default Spot View and our own Static Cameras because they are designed for cameras that are far from the aircraft so that parameter is calibrated for far objects.

At that point, it's up to the scenery developer that makes that scenery to design it in a way that doesn't cause flicker. Most developers have gotten much better in the last few years when it comes to clipping calibration.

Keven

Thank you Keven for this detailed explanation.
Now i can stop changing my settings and display driver to find the cause...
