747, 777 - Questions & Comments

Featured Replies

I'm a new P3D user who just bought the 777 & 747 family.. I have used PMDG products before in FSX and well aware of your high quality standards..

In P3D it looks way more jaw dropping and amazing.. also loving the system depth.. now onto the questions:

1. 777 - I know this is an older product compared to the 747 family.. I noticed that the flap and landing gear animations are not as fluid as they are in the 747 or other products of this period.. perhaps its using older 2014 tech? Will it get updated after the -8 is released and all products are brought to today's modeling standards? This was the only thing i found with the 777.. all other modeling looks and feels up-to-date with today's tech..

2. will the cabin windows get a glassy look at some point? some addons show a glassy cabin look where you can see the sun reflecting on the glass..

3. 747 - the integrated panel night lighting is too dim.. not the dome lights which are perfect.. maybe that's how it is in real life? it looks like the integrated panel lights have a very low wattage compared to how they look in 777.. see attached pics for comparison.. not a biggie, but want to know if it was deliberately modeled that way.. the 747 if after all an older plane compared to 777 in real life..

The first pic is the 777 - you can see how bright the integrated panel lights are.. the 2 pics below that are of the 747..  exactly same HDR/brightness settings.. FWIW i'm using tomato shade..

Also, any plans to use spotlights or real lights for VC lighting? right now, when i turn the VC flood light knobs, the FPS drops momentarily to single digits and then goes back to normal.. again, newer P3D dynamic lighting tech can help here i suppose?

1. I don't know the answer to this one, except for the fact that I haven't noticed what you describe here as a problerm with the PMDG 777.

2. The 747 doesn't have a 'glassy cabin' look - at least not from the inside. Reflections are deliberately kept to a minimum on the real aircraft, although in certain weather conditions (i.e. rain and at night) it is sometimes possible to see a slight double-image reflection of the runway lighting on the approach due to the slight curvature of the No.1 windscreens.  Reducing this effect to a minimum is just one of several reasons why the pilots' seat positions are so important, especially during take off and landing and why there are horizontal and vertical marks on the window post to help each pilot adjust their seat position correctly for flight.

3. Have you turned off 'Enable HDR Lighting', because i understand from reports I have read elswehere that there are some minor P3Dv4.3 lighting issues and this should improve the overall graphics effects you see.  It is also possible to turn up the background lighting on the PMDG B744 and you have probably not found and tweaked the right knob yet!  I won't spoil your fun by telling you which one it is! 🙂

on the VC panel lighting, the problem seems to have fixed itself.. i loaded up another 747 flight today at night, and the panel lights were as bright as they are on the 777.. i was actually fiddling with different aircraft equipments and displays and voila the problem was gone!

will keep an eye on this - 50% of my flights are long haul night flights.. so plenty of opportunity to test this out.. 🙂

the flap and landing gear animation on the 777 - that needs to be looked at.. its not as smooth as 747.. again a very minor issue, but just noticed it..

and yes i do read the manuals.. i actually did read both the 777 and 747 intro manuals thoroughly.. i know how much effort the devs put into that!  🙂

I love that integrated panel lighting in the 777, so I will have to work out how to get the same effect in the 747....

i think i found out when this low VC lighting issue happens... when you start a flight at day time and then fly a long haul where you transition into night time, then the VC lights are very dim..

But if you start at night time, then the lights are very bright.. this is on the 747.. lemme try it on the 777 and report back..

I use tomato shade and no other shader/light mods..

also, does someone have a suggestion to enable faster loading of wing textures, esp during heavy scenery? I tried texturemaxLoad=51 but didnt help.. also tried maxpurgeperframe=1..
