ORBX textures work well! Other addons textures do not!

Hello! I hope someone of you can help me.

I use Prepar3D v4 and the following addons for the landscape:

ORBX Global Base, all Global openLC Addons, Global VECTOR and Mesh FS Global Ultimate - Next Generation

The ORBX addon textures are all sharp and load very fast. All good!

But when I install an airport addon or photorealistic textures, these textures are blurrie.

I am very surprised, because the ORBX textures all work perfectly. But at the same time the addon scenery textures that are installed by airport addons, look very bad.

I've tried a lot in the Config but unfortunately without success.

Your observation is true but you probably can't do anything about it.

ORBX textures (as well as the default Prepar3d textures) are landclass-based, i.e. they are called by landclass data (from e.g. OpenLC). They have been specially hand-crafted to look sharp and crisp at any altitude.

Airport surroundings often are made from aerial images. As is well-known, Prepar3d4 has an issue with displaying photo textures and as a result these often appear blurry. This issue has been often raised on the Lockheed Martin forum. Lockheed Martin rendering lead Beau Hollis has given an explanation about the cause quite some time ago (you may look it up there), so there might be a minor, but non-vanishing possibility Lockheed Martin will rework the photo scenery display mechanism in one of the next updates.

Since V4 LM has made some changes on how PR scenery appears.

Developers now have to compile their scenery at a higher LOD level to get the same sharpness.

However, no developer is willing to do that just for V4 with already released scenery. And FranceVFR stated that they were not going to do that even with new scenery.

Remember , 2x more sharp = 4X larger in size...

This is also why some scenery developers have stated they will only be working on 64bit scenery, upsetting the FSX users, but in time more will likely follow

I suppose so... I have some France VFR Sceneries which as such are beautiful but lack the crisp textures I am used to from ORBX regions. I was told my system might be overloaded, but if textures stay blurry even after completely switching off all autogen (which I tried), it's certainly something else. As confirmed by LM and mentioned by Gerard above.

It would seem to me that a photo-real texture is only going to look best at the same distance used by the camera that took the picture.  If you zoom in within the simulator, I don't see how Lockheed could ever somehow "fill-in" the missing data (detail) that the camera resolution didn't capture, and similarly when zooming way out, you're not going to have the detail the original camera captured, it's going to blur just like any picture that gets stretched to far out.

Thus, I don't know if LM will ever completely resolve this issue...unless the camera used actually shot the PR scenery at multiple distances.
