Alternatives to FSAutostart ?

Featured Replies

Good afternoonI ask the question above not to offend but only to check what options are out there. If you use something other than FSAS to manage and shut down unnecessary background programs I would be grateful if you would post the relevant information in reply. Many thanks in advanceFACT

Try uninstall/reinstall. Not sure why it isn't working for you...

I've found reinstalling over the top fixes issues like this.Gary

As an aside, I always run FsAutoStart three times in a row. Later passess run faster, no new programs are killed but the degfrag algorithm gets better and better. I gain almost 100K in free memory just from running it 2 extra times. After 3 there is no added benefit worth the time.

I use a freeware program called SmartClose. Works well for me with no adverse effects. Before that I used Enditall 2.

Forget about the alternatives, FSAutoStart really is the business and sooo versatile :)I have set up my system with 2xHardware profiles:Profile 1 (Master)...nothing disabled and used for general everyday purposes.Simming and Gaming...where I have disabled all the Services I feel I don't need.I select the appropriate profile during boot/reboot.THEN, I run FSAutoStart:http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/154757.jpgAs you can see from the above image, I have created a number of Profiles. each profile has specific tweaks to FS9.cfg and each will call the appropriate version of FS9.cfg for the particular situation I need it for.I don't touch any more Services as the Simming and Gaming Hardware Profile has taken care of that. I use it to shut down a few backgound Programs which are launched at Startup and might interfere with the smooth performance of FS9. I also have it configured to defrag physical memory prior to launch of FS9 or any memory intensive Game. When you exit FS9, or a Game, FSAutoStart can be configured to restart whatever has been stopped after you exit FS9 or whatever. Conversely, you can configure it remain paused on exit which, I find, is great when you are testing changes made to FS9.Okay, it does require a bit of effort to set it all up but, once done, it takes all the hassle out of running FS9 optimally while at the same time ensuring resources available to the CPU are maximized.I wouldn't be without it and I've been using it for what seems like years now :) EndItALL is fine in its own way, but is not nearly as versatile as FSAutoStart and you now have to pay for it :(Mike

What Mike said. :-) Greg

I use an earlier version because I can't get the latest version to work either. When I click the icon it opens to the configure screen but then there's no start button to click to get it to run.

Once upon a time I got FSAutostart to work ( I think).Since then, after a windows re-install (do that every 6 months) I have tried at least 3 times to install and reinstall FS AutoStart, and I get a bunch of errors, or crahes.Unfortunately I went back to enditall 2.I agree with some people that say that FS Auto start is kind of complicated.I sure would like to get it to work for me, but so far no way amigo KEN.Edmundo cardenasCaracas, Venezuelapilot.gif
