August 22, 200619 yr I'm very interested in this thread as well since I can't get FSAutostart to work anymore on my flightsim PC. It gives me an error that's supposed to be fixed by one of Ken Salter's patches; however, the patch never worked for me and I never got a response on the FSAutoSTart forum.I used EndItAll many, many moons ago, but it wasn't as configurable as FSAutostart. Maybe it's time I had a look at it again.

August 22, 200619 yr Ctrl+Alt+Del and then learn what can be shut down. Cheapest solution out there and benefits not just your flight simming.Allcott
August 22, 200619 yr Commercial Member I must admit, I found FSAutostart to be complicated, though no doubt very useful for those that know what they're doing. For me, simple old End-it-all is great!Dreamfleet Project ManagerGreatest Airliners - DC-8Greatest Airliners - 727 Whisperjethttp://www.dreamfleet2000.com/gfx/images/F...BANNER_PAUL.jpg Cheers Paul Golding
August 22, 200619 yr I use CTRL+ALT+DELETE as Allcott above but wonder if the realocating RAM function in FSAutostart is actually beneficial too. Anyone know for sure.
August 22, 200619 yr This Microsoft article gives instructions on how to do a clean boot for gaming. I found that it shuts down almost all of the processes that are recommended to be shut down with FSAS. I still use FSAS for a couple other processes and the memory defrag but this article is pretty helpful. Of course, I am assuming that you have already disabled all of the unnecessary processes on your system. If not, you should try that first.http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=331796 MSFS Premium Deluxe Edition; Windows 11 Pro, I9-9900k; Asus Maximus XI Hero; Asus TUF RTX3080TI; 32GB G.Skill Ripjaw DDR4 3600; 2X Samsung 1TB 970EVO; NZXT Kraken X63; Seasonic Prime PX-1000, LG 48" C1 Series OLED, Honeycomb Yoke & TQ, CH Rudder Pedals, Logitech G13 Gamepad
August 22, 200619 yr When I use FS Auto start it frees up and defragments a full 100 Mb of memory. Not having a power system to start with that's a huge benefit. That 100 MB is less if I just performed a restart of the computer but if it's been running for a while I get that full 100.IF I'm going to go into FS9 for just a few minutes to look into something or change something I don't use Auto start because it takes time to shut down and re-open all that stuff but if I'm going in for a full session I wouldn't be without it. I also have two setups in it so I can also shut down Zone Alarm firewall and physically disconnect my internet cable if I'm going into a high resource session. It takes a while to set it up the first time and usually needs another time consuming tweak after that but it's well worth the time after it's been set up proper and it needn't be touched again after that.
August 22, 200619 yr Ahhh, if only I could get it to work. I continue to get the dreaded error and I've never been able to figure out why.See here: http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho...sg_id=178&page=Wish I could continue to use FSAutoStart. :(
August 22, 200619 yr I don't understand why somebody whould like to find something similar to FSAutostart!!!This program if you know what you are doing is making wonders! Do not neglect memory defragmentation by the way.Keep in mind it can be configured to operate with any CPU/memory intensive application not just FS.http://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/betaimg.jpgSam Sam. Waiting for the 64-bit PSION Flightsim for ZX-Spectrum ////
August 22, 200619 yr >I don't understand why somebody whould like to find something>similar to FSAutostart!!!>>This program if you know what you are doing is making wonders!Sam:Well, I'd love for it to work, but it doesn't. I get a common error that doesn't repair itself with Salter's latest patch.Bummer.
August 22, 200619 yr I now have 1 Gig of RAM - and basically I have stopped using FSAutostart. I am now not so sure that it is needed. Obviously by turning off certain MS services , it frees up some memory - but I can't see that it helps much. Also my machine is fairly clean anyway - the only background programmes that I have running are antivirus and firewall. I am connected to the Internet permanently as I am on broadband connection.Barry
August 23, 200619 yr Another alternative:I have a seperate hardware profile set up for FS which has all unnecessary services and hardware devices disabled via the Services/Properties/Logon tab of Computer Management.Any startup programs which are not services are terminated via Task Manager.
