Can airways be added to a flight plan?

Yes.

There's a whole section on this in the User's Guide starting on page 42.

Starting on page 46, at the bottom, explains how to enter routes with airways, without entering them manually.  The section on Importing Flight Plans, starting on page 48, is the most often used way of getting routes with airways.
