Importing a 3D Model into FSX as a building

Featured Replies

I have a 3D model of an important (to muslims) mosque that I have developed, and would very much like the idea of integrating it into FSX, i.e. adding it at the appropriate location geographically. An addon that I could post on the internet for free.My question is, if I buy the Deluxe version, will that give me enough tools on the SDK, to be able to import the mosque, and pack-it-up as a FSX addon? The mosque model is at http://www.3dkabah.comI have the model in Truespace(COB), 3DMax (3DS), and AutoCad (DXF) formats.Alternatively, how else does one create additional 3D content for FSX (as done in FS9) without having to be a professional coder / developer? Thanks for any helpAbid

The Great Mosque looks beautiful, Abid. Good work.If you have created the model in 3DS, you should be able to get it into FS easily enough.Normally, FS also comes with GMax, that is a stripped-down version of an earlier 3DS, and you should be able to import your model into GMax and export it as a scenery model for FS.The SDKs will also be available on the FS Insider web site, although you should probably buy the Pro (wait, I mean the "Deluxe") version of FS X for all the enhancements. You can find the necessary export modules for GMax here:http://www.fsinsider.com/downloads/fs2004_downloads_sdk.htmand you will find GMax on your FS 9 disks.Best regards.Luis

That is wonderful wonderful work on the kabah, and you should be proud of your work. I'd love to see that make its way into my copy of FSX once it comes out.

Wow, thanks for the kind comments guys, and thanks for that URL.It seems that it can be done, (with a little conversion work)I'll keep you all posted when it gets done.cheersAbid

Please email me, brian.gefrich at gmail.com when you get it done. I'd love to add it to my copy of FSX when it comes out.

Very nice. I did a simpler model of the Kabah for FS-2004 at http://flightsim.andyjohnston.netI just did the Kabah itself, and not the mosque that surrounds it as I didn't have enough information to do it justice.

I can give you all my 3D data (it's presently in Truespace format, but I'm working on trying to convert it into 3DMax.. or whatever format might be appropriate)All the 3D meshes and textures that I'm giving away as charityware on my website, currenlty in Truespace format (you can download for free)http://www.3dkabah.com/download.htmThe problem is, I've not much of a clue as to converting my model into FS2004.It's certainly something I want to do, but if there is someone out there that may be interested in doing the same, and has more expertise in FS modelling, then I'd be happy for that person to take all my 3D data and make something out of it.Abid

Hmm, well I did mine in flight sim desgin studio, I don't know if you could export to that. Although if you could get it to gmax, I could take a look at it.I don't have the $$$ to get something like 3DMax

WowHave you seen this?http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho...=&topic_page=13Basically, somebody has been to Makkah on FSX, and taken an image of the Grand Mosque. The FSX model is no where near as advanced as the one I have, but it's a start! Is it possible to create a new model, and tell it to ignore the default one?Abid

In the past it has always been possible to create excludes to eliminate the default scenery so you can add your own. I assume it's the same in FSX.

>Is it possible to create a new model, and tell it to ignore>the default one?Actually, simply putting a new model & textures into the Addon Scenery folder(s) and then activating the new scenery will automatically replace the default in most cases... ;)

Well, in any case, I was extremely excited to see what Aces had done in their inclusionI've updated my web pagehttp://www.3dkabah.comand ever since my wife got home this evening, I've been dying to show her... However, her being too normal (and slightly poorly), she isn't really too interested at the mo!;-)
