August 26, 200619 yr Is Jeppesen Real Weather implemented in the demo. If yes there is a problem/challenge. Jeppesen weather shows St Maarten to have a temperature of 59f with clear skies. Reality is 87F with cloudy skies.Dick near 5G8Edit: Well, as I was typing the message the weather screen updated and the correct values magically appeared. Wonder why it took so long? regards, Dick near Pittsburgh, USA
August 26, 200619 yr FS weather updates about once every 15 minutes - however the weather reporting stations only send in weather once an hour - if we are lucky. After so long without a report, FS weather reverts back to standard temperature (59F) and clear skies. We've had lines of thunderstorms with hail roll through KDFW - and the METAR never showed anything but partly cloudy skies and light winds.METAR are not designed to inform pilots of fast changing local weather conditions. That's the job of enroute Pitreps, FSS stations and ATIS/AWOS and the center controllers.
August 26, 200619 yr Well, there are always SPECI reports which can be transmitted at any time when the weather changes significantly (the parameters defining 'significant' WRT a SPECI observation escape me at the moment)......
August 26, 200619 yr That's because there is a very silly bug in real weather in MSFS, that apparently won't be fixed once again with the release of FSX: weather stations without a valid report always assume clear sky, temp 15'C (hence the 59'F), dewpoint 12'C, winds calm, visibility unlimited.Maybe the fix for this bug needs to be done server-side, I don't know if there is the possibility for a station to have no specific weather settings in a WX file in FS. But anyway, when gathering weather data from Jeppesen, MS's server could be just a little smarter and not assume "weather is clear if no METAR found". I'd take the opportunity to suggest that old observations should be ignored (one nearby station where I live was reporting weather from a day in 2003 not long ago - I confirmed it crosschecking with NOAA data) and to point out that in metric countries when visibility is informed as 9999 it does NOT mean 9999 meters, but unlimited instead.Rafa near SBPA (but with weather always spoiled by bogus data in SBCO)(edit: had forgot to sign it)
August 27, 200619 yr The "weather smoothing" to avoid the clear bubble is probably the biggest seller of Active Sky and FS Meteo.
