The CRJ Mission.

Featured Replies

There is something about this CRJ Mission.. that I simply loved. Yeah..it was nothing complicated an all..but still, It felt like my IPTrainer from ASA which I really like for IFR instruction. Such missions with proper communications and procedure prompts would help teach and educate good procedures for Sim flying. Its like an instructor sitting there next to you promting you .... I think, after the new water in FSX, this mission feature is what is going to take FSX to another level.I wish a payware vendor would provide an entire set of IFR training missions. DME Arcs, ADF, VOR approach, DME Holds, ADF Holds, ....almost like a check ride mission at the end. It would be great. OR trying to flyinto Oshkosh where there are 100s of aircrafts around you... ... This is going to be fun.One of the reason, I love to fly with a good IFR Pilot even If I am just a passenger ...is to listen in and learn the right procedures and comms .... This could fill that role. Manny

I just flew it myself, and although it wasn't the smoothest thing ever, I stuck the landing and really enjoyed it.

"I wish a payware vendor would provide an entire set of IFR training missions."I'm working on it. You can try a very crude representation of some stuff I am working on at my website below. Click on my link below and go to Downloads/Video and click on Class 1 - Introduction to Flying. I'll be adding videos and missions/flightplans. Please check it out and let me know what you think. I'd really love some feedback. And yes, each presentation will be clearly marked as being for entertainment only. But I think non-pilots, pilots and pilots-to-be will all be able to use tools like this. Thanks,Thomas[a href=http://www.flyingscool.com] http://www.flyingscool.com/images/Signature.jpg [/a]I like using VC's :-)

Thomas, I went through the tutorial..its very well done.As for the content.. I am thinking..wouldn't most of the basic stuff be part of the training material that comes with Flight sim. I am mentioning this to avoid duplicate effort. As for the style and the way you did it.. is very nice.I don't know if you have ever tried ASAs IPTrainer for IFR. Its one of my all time favorite. (except its the format and looks of it is so outdated). If you get a chance you should look at it the way its done. FSX Missions would be perfect for it. Its almost like the CRJ mission, an Instructor is sitting next to you ..promting you do things. At the basic level, the instructor would vocalize and do the procedure himself.... at the highest level, you have to do everything yourself and you get evaluated..and then there are some intermediate level..where you do the things but you get prompted. the IPtrainer costs around $100 US. The lesson plan is complete...for an entire IFR flight instruction. Manny

Hi Manny,Thanks for the kind words. As you may have noted on my web page, I am running classes through the local community education services to introduce adults and children to flying. This is only the start to what I see as a whole range of available classes/themes. My target audience for this particular series are people who are interested in flying, but don't know the first thing about it, and don't even have MSFS. My goal is to introduce them to MSFS and show them that they can use the software, and to help them get the most out of it that they can. A lot of these parents don't really have the time or horsepower to get the software or load it, so I'm already getting a lot of repeat business. Whenever I take my setup anywhere, people love it. I'm involved with the Young Eagles in Stow, MA, and, when I can make it, it provides something for the kids and parents to do while they wait for their flight. And the cool thing is, Nels Anderson, whose plane is the basis for the Dreamfleet Archer, is regularly involved in it. So those kids who get to fly with him get an added advantage to become familiar with the cockpit ahead of time. I've modeled the airport there, so the kids get to practice their flight while they wait. I end up having to turn people away.I don't really expect many people who frequent here at avsim to really get a lot out of an introductory course like this, but there could very well be a market even here of people who lurk and are trying to learn, and of course I think people would eat up more advanced classes. And yes, I can't wait to get ahold of the SDK's as I plan on creating missions to match the videos I'll be creating.I also hope to get involved with the schools to use these concepts to create educational enrichment programs. Aviation has huge applicability across the board to everything that is taught in school, including math, science, social studies, history, even art. Thanks for the tip on IPTrainer, I'll definately check that out!I think, if I can find the time to write it all, there is huge potential here for a large variety of classes. Given the age range I am targeting, being able to supply all the hands on classes becomes difficult. But if I can offer online classes, the variety will only be limited by development time. Thanks again, I could use all the feedback and tips like this that I can get.Thomas[a href=http://www.flyingscool.com] http://www.flyingscool.com/images/Signature.jpg [/a]I like using VC's :-)
