August 12, 200619 yr Do you think FPS is affected by installing the demo on an ext HD? I know I can reinstall on the C drive to find out but would appreciate any insight into using an external. Its a 160GB USB 2.0 7200 WDThanksBill
August 12, 200619 yr The external drive will be a fair bit slower. You should install on the internal.
August 12, 200619 yr Go ahead and install it on the external drive. The FPS performance you see on the external drive will be identical to what you would see on your C drive. FPS will never be affected by the HDD configuration. There could be a slight lag in texture loading caused by the relatively slower speed of the USB port but it's not even noticeable with FS2004 and probably won't be with the FSX demo either.Doug Intel 10700K @ 5.1Ghz, Asus Hero Maximus motherboard, Noctua NH-U12A cooler, Corsair Vengeance Pro 32GB 3200 MHz RAM, RTX 2060 Super GPU, Cooler Master HAF 932 Tower, Thermaltake 1000W Toughpower PSU, Windows 10 Professional 64-Bit, 100TB of disk storage. This seems really not, you know, true.
August 12, 200619 yr "I don't think it's real safe to say that if something happens in FS2004 it will happen in FSX." And, I agree. But that's not what I said - read it again. As far as FPS go, the discussion here at about FS2004/FSX, not "games in general". Why try to put such a fine point on it? I think the meaning is clear from the comtext.Doug Intel 10700K @ 5.1Ghz, Asus Hero Maximus motherboard, Noctua NH-U12A cooler, Corsair Vengeance Pro 32GB 3200 MHz RAM, RTX 2060 Super GPU, Cooler Master HAF 932 Tower, Thermaltake 1000W Toughpower PSU, Windows 10 Professional 64-Bit, 100TB of disk storage. It's also true that hdd transfer speeds can affect a lot of things, especially in games. I just thought that should be pointed out too.
August 12, 200619 yr Every game I have is on external harddrive, since I also use a laptop an external harddrive is faster than my internal. It doesn't change anything on fps.
