Landing on moving ships possible!!!!!

Featured Replies

Thanks ACES!!!! I did a little experiment... just renamed some ai boat files and replaced a small boat by the carrier model. This way I got it to move. Then I attempted to land on it an it worked!! the ship keeps moving with the plane on to of it. Thanks again!! it is the dawn of a new age for naval aviation in FS!!!!

Awesome! Can't wait to shoot some traps!

i wonder if you can rename an AI airplane, like the 747, to one of the cessnas, and maybe you can fly it?

Here

This is great news as we'll finally have real Naval operations modeled. Will diffidently bring me back to my days of being in VFA-94 on the USS Lincoln (F/A-18 squadron based out of Lemoore CA). I gotta wait for my 3+gig upgrade and Vista to enjoy it though.

"I had to modify a parameter in the sim.cfg of the boat. I replaced all the files in the folder "PBoat_25ft_Bluehull_sm" with the carrier ones. The traffic pattern is from a small boat so it spend most of the time turning around, but sometimes it just keep moving straight for a while. The only purpose of this experiment was to see if the ai boats are landable. It seems that the hardened landable surface is defined in the mdl file since there are no parameters for that in "sim.cfg" like in CFS2. I also did another test replacing "PBoat_25ft_Bluehull_sm" with "VEH_water_yacht_280ft_sm" which as its name says its a large yatcht."Ok now I understood. Thank you!dito

Yes, if you add a carrier to the sim, you could have an AI carrier depart San Diego en route to Hawaii... and then have fun "locating" the carrier mid Pacific to simulate CODS... ;)

HOLY CRAP! ;-) I spend a good amount of time in the sim doing nothing but carrier ops. I've always wanted moving carriers... even lamented their absence from the sim in here... but I did NOT seriously expect to see them in this version. I'm seriously looking forward to this. Now you can turn the wind to 10 knots, set the carrier to 20, and start your turn when abeam... as it should be! Great news!My only hesitation about getting TOO excited is... well, I doubt the asociated navaids can move. (Correct?) MOVING ILS beams and VOR signals, or even moving visual slope aids (the ball)... I'd be seriously surprised to see that work. Making moving navaids work would almost definitely not be a trivial enhancement to the way navaids are handled by the sim.... But still, moving carriers, it's a good advance.
