August 10, 200619 yr First and foremost:P4 3.2GHz HT1GB RAMATi Radeon 9800SEHard drive (~250GB) 35% full.First, this thing is just OWNING my computer. I haven't seen an app run so slow in recent memory, even FS9 stuffed to #### with add-ons won't run as bad as this on Medium High. I literally get 2 FPS with everything maxed out.Second, I am having a lot of graphics issues. I get only one or two car models to show OK, the rest show up black. Sometimes even my pilot and virtual cockpit look black from spot view, or I can't even see out the window because the VC windows are black. This usually happens messing around with water textures. Is it just me? I'm really hoping so, because if this is what FSX has to offer... :-lolDaniel P.http://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/supporter.jpgMember of SJU Photography. August 10, 200619 yr Yes - I tried to install the demo - it said that it was installing an "installer" , then asked me to reboot the machine - then afterwards , it has taken over my machine . I have a cpu useage of 50% with the machine just idling at the desktop - and the Hdd light is on almost constantly.Something BAD has happened.Barry
August 10, 200619 yr I had major problems at start up too. My system is P4 3.2, 1 GB RAM, GF6800GT 256. I have now defragged the HDD and run the demo through FSAutostart. Even so, the demo has a number of bugs and performance on my system remains abysmal. However, if I crank all the sliders back under medium I can get the frames rates up to playable levels. But in so doing I lose everything that could be considered an improvement on my highly modified FS9.People are saying that MS still has two months to fix FSX but in fact if they want to get the boxes on the shelves worldwide by October, MS probably only have 3-4 weeks at most. Not a lot of time if the demo is representative of where they are at. Looks like I'll need some significant upgrades to run FSX, and my system is much better than many folks have. August 10, 200619 yr Hi,IIRC the 5200 does support shader 2, but in an extremely limited way. I've had no end of problems gettings 'standard' shader2 type things working on 5200 cards in DirectX.For everyone else with performance problems, it seems this one is rather more dependant on disk access than before. First thing to try is a serious defrag, that worked wonders here. Don't believe Windows when it says 'This drive does not need defragmented', do it anyway. Preferably with something like [a HREF=http://www.raxco.com/products/downloadit/perfectdisk2000_download.cfm]PerfectDisk[/a] or [a href=http://www.diskeeper.com/downloads/downloads-r.asp]Diskeeper[/a], they both have demo versions. (No, I'm not on commission :) ) Also, if you have a choice, put it on a different physical disk to where you've got Windows and pagefiles.Could just be me, but Windowed mode seems better than Fullscreen for some reason. Also, don't just go nuts on the terrain sliders without good reason. They seem to cater for far higher detail than is provided, so turning them way up may not be helping. (Why set 1m terrain and 7cm textures when there aren't any?)While I'm here, has anyone seen actual evidence of multi-core support? It seems to be in there for loading scenery but I've not noticed it anywhere else yet.Cheers,Jim
August 10, 200619 yr AMD Athlon 64+ 4000 (S939, San Diego core)2Gb Corsair RAM 2-5-5-6Gainward 7900GT 512Mb (one of the rare AGP versions) O/C to 490 GPU & 700 RAM through RivaTunerForceware 84.21 Settings: High quality, 4X AA, 8XAF, most everything else turned on.This system is quite stable and runs most games very well. Runs FS2004 very nicely (thanks to the 2Gb of RAM).The Demo is running quite well for me with the display settings set to "high" and target fps 20. I'd say I'm getting that and higher in places. There are some pauses, but not many. I've noticed a few slow-filling textures. The cars (which are travelling far too fast) look to be just the shadows. Parked cars are fine, but the moving ones are moving shadows! There are some nasty speckling effects with the water (particularly shadows). This is exactly the same effect that IL2:Forgotten Battles + Pacific Fighters addon had. After much complaining on the forums (it was commonly called the "screen-door" effect), 1C:Maddox games were able to fix it. Perhaps the ACEs team could give Oleg Maddox a call to find out how they did it. The main problem I'm having is that after a flight, the next one I choose completely corrupts the graphics. There is no cockpit (just a black outline), the ground is black and red and the trees turn into black blocky shapes.Early days for FSX, but promising.
August 10, 200619 yr I couldn't even get it to run after I downloaded before work this morning. I'll try again this evening and, if need be, reinstall.
