Questions about range and weight.

Featured Replies

So I had 2 quick questions about the range and weights of the 747-800.

1. Is the range that's listed in P3D in the aircraft detail section the range when fully loaded or the range when empty?

2. When doing a ferry flight is it possible to have a payload weight of zero or is there always some weight added besides the pilots?

Thanks

Jason Thiers

The range is based on what Boeing considers to be a standard seating configuration, which I think is based on 416 passengers for the Boeing 747-400. Not really sure off hand what they consider a standard seating configuration for the -8, but in any event, if you have a different seating configuration, the weight difference will certainly affect the range. As for payload, that's the weight of the passengers and cargo, so if you're doing a ferry flight, it would be zero.

Thanks for the reply. As far as the weight goes that's what I figured, but I thought I remember hearing somewhere that even on ferry flights they would add some weight just to balance things out. It could be airline specific or I might just not remember correctly what they said.

You might want to add balast to be inside CG limits with an empty plane. Ie cargo

I guess I misunderstood the question, then. My bad. That I'm not too sure of.
