June 4, 200620 yr So, the first question we asked about 4x4 was: how much different is this than taking an off the shelf 2P board and dropping in a couple 2xx series Opteron processors with NVIDIA's quad SLI? Unfortunately, we haven't gotten any answer other than to say that there is something that makes it different. From what we understand, 4x4 will support unbuffered DIMMS (while Opterons still require registered memory), and the platform will be focused towards tweakable motherboards. We are looking into all the details. While the more power! kick is always interesting, we have to wonder if there will be any software in the near term that can really harness all this raw potential. This was taken from anandtech.comThe last part was the most interesting:"While the more power! kick is always interesting, we have to wonder if there will be any software in the near term that can really harness all this raw potential."FSX is my answer, if indeed FSX will benefit from it. What do you guys think? Will FSX benefit from dual dual cores?RH
June 4, 200620 yr You're really on some kind of geekish crusade, huh? ;) Come on... it's just computer parts! There's more important stuff in life, well, there should be.Regards,http://www.bremmekamp.com/img/misc/avsim.jpg

I mean taking things to extremes so it cuts out other areas of life.Far better to support PETA or other world-giving organizations :)
June 7, 200619 yr Yes it will. However 4x4 might be overkill :) (dual dual cores)It supports mutiprocessing via fibers as opposed to full threads. FS9 does too apparantly. I'm holding out until Vista for my upgrade...
June 7, 200619 yr When you say overkill, does that mean we may get 300 fps with all sliders maxed in a dual-dual core system, when in reality we only need 30 to 50fps? I have spent far more time tweaking and searhing info to keep my framerates at a decent level than I have actual flying, so if the above is the case, I will be the first to purchase the AMD dual-dual core (regardless of cost - caveat -- as long as my wife does not fine out ;) and say the heck with Intel). The extra money would be will spent knowing that I would be able to stop looking for performance increases and spend that time doing what I enjoy best, and that is flying (my LDS-767ER and my RFP-747-200).However, I suspect that that is not what you mean and certainly would not be the case. Is it?RH
June 7, 200619 yr I hardly belive this, but let us wait and see. As time go by, we'll have a better idea of the differences between the CPU's. Let's rather enjoy the summer and make our choices in october/november month.
