May 25, 200620 yr Hi all! Here is the question:will FSX have different water textures (expecially wave effects) for seas, lakes and falls?About falls, will FSX render them?At last I've another question for you:Will FSX water textures support alpha channel with levels? In this case we obtain water above a terrain texture with trasparency!
May 25, 200620 yr Also, will FSX finally support real ice during wintertime (in bodies of water, not on wings, mind you)? In FS9 ice has to be faked with textures the user installs / uninstalls themselves as seasons change.
May 25, 200620 yr If you had looked at some screenshots or watched some videos or even read this forum you would have noted that the water textures have indeed changed. The water is still flat (experiments were done with moving water but the performance hit was unacceptable in DX9) and it is still opaque but there are new textures and effects for water, it appears they've actually doubled up the textures and move one over the other to create a appearence of a moving ocean. Effects like rotor downwash and such like are also improved. Go look at some screenshots or watch the trailer... there are enough links around here. ckyliu, proud supporter of ViaIntercity.com. i5 12400F, 32GB, RTX4070, more in "About me" on my profile.
May 25, 200620 yr ckyliu,They didn't ask if the base textures had changed, they asked if there were different textures and wave effects for oceans, lakes and falls and if there was going to be ice for frozen lakes.Since I only fly low and slow these particular questions are important to me and yes, I read the forums and know the water textures will be different in FSx.Excellent questions guys!!
May 27, 200620 yr Author if you take a look at the various screenshots that have been released, it's pretty clear ocean waters look vastly different from river/lake waters in terms of wave action etc... I actually noticed this last night as I was looking into physics processing units... Dean MountfordUltimate VFR
