FSX Minimum Screen Resolution?

Featured Replies

It's time to upgrade your monitor ;)

Yes, there is functionality in my cards (both the nVidia and ATI cards in my Dell laptops) that allows it to "fit" the graphics to the screen, it even accommodates expanding to the full screen or maintaining the aspect ratio. Many programs are able to accommodate this, FS doesn't. I admit, I don't understand how it works and why some programs can do it and some can't. There may even be different functionalities going on here, some programs accommodating the fit to screen, some just changing the resolution. All I know is that for some reason FS "blocks" my card from expanding the graphics to full screen. I have a feeling it is because FS is reporting that the screen it is displaying is 1920x1200, so the display just keeps on going.I do understand that the flight window and the menu window graphics systems are different, and perhaps their interaction is what causes this. I'm hoping that this difference is what might allow the functionality to work.My original question asked, why doesn't FS work with it? I'm a reasonable guy and I expect there are good reasons. My desire was to get some thoughts flowing here and perhaps figure out a way to support it.Thank you for listening :)Thomas[a href=http://www.flyingscool.com/FC_StartJava.html] http://www.flyingscool.com/images/Signature.jpg [/a]I like using VC's :-)

BTW, yes, I would like it to expand to fit the screen. It does not do that today on my Dell D810 laptop with X300 mobility graphics, nor did it do it on any of my previous Dell laptops (C840, D800, nVidia graphics).Thomas[a href=http://www.flyingscool.com/FC_StartJava.html] http://www.flyingscool.com/images/Signature.jpg [/a]I like using VC's :-)

Quote:++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++We have a check in the device mode enumerator that filters out modes below 1024x768, meaning that you cannot run fullscreen in 800x600. Furthermore, I just added a check this week that will prevent you from running in windowed mode if your Windows desktop is running at less than 1024x768. This is to prevent the UI from being clipped and therefore unusable.++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++I sure hope that I can run 1024x768 settings in window mode. I cannot stand full-screen mode, as I like to "multitask" sometimes when I'm using Flight Simulator. I also cannot stand desktop PC monitors being in 16 : 9 ratio displays. IMHO, 16 : 9 should only be reserved for HDTV, and I will likely never buy a PC with a 16 : 9 monitor. I just don't like the way the desktop looks on a 16 : 9 monitor.

Hi Bell,Your answer in is your quote: "Furthermore, I just added a check this week that will prevent you from running in windowed mode if your Windows desktop is running at less than 1024x768. This is to prevent the UI from being clipped and therefore unusable."Now, I take this as meaning that under no conditions 800X600 will be able to be used.Hope this helps,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/Active Sky V6 Development TeamActive Sky V6 Proud SupporterHiFi Beta TeamRadar Contact Supporter
