June 19, 20196 yr http://  This is LSGS Sion Airport in the Swiss Alps (useing LNM new maps) Constellation? L049 / L1049? The triple tail caught my eye, aswell the stairs at the rear also..and nice oil trails across the wings 🙂    Luke Pype
June 19, 20196 yr That will be HB-RSC, the Super Constelation Flyers L-1049. Sadly it's been grounded for some time as there are no funds for the necessary restoration work to keep it flying and the association has been dissolved. https://www.superconstellation.org/en/  Cheers  Mallard Â
June 23, 20196 yr Author Thanks for the info. 20 million to restore wings? 20!? a great shame.  On the other hand, it’s still going strong in the virtual world 🙂  Luke Pype
July 9, 20196 yr Just a quick update on the Connie: it seems it has been sold to "an investor group" in Germany which is based at Eschbach-Bremgarten airport, just south of Freiburg im Breisgau. And they want to bring her back into the air within three years. Souce: Neue Zürcher Zeitung (in German) https://www.nzz.ch/mobilitaet/luftfahrt/zweite-chance-fuer-schweizer-super-constellation-ld.1494443 My guess is that the buyer is Meier Motors, known for their quite impressive collection of warbirds: http://www.meiermotors.com/ Anyway, it's good news to hear that she will be back up and flying again 🙂  Cheers  Mallard
July 10, 20196 yr Is there spares floating around for it?? I bet that's got more mels than g-vsun!!       Â
July 10, 20196 yr The spares aspect was what made the initial estimate of CHF 20m so high. Especially the wing spars, which are the main cause of concern, would have to be manufactured from scratch... Engine parts should be halfway accessible. But if there's any place I'd trust in that region (SW Germany, NW Switzerland) it would be Meier Motors. They seem to have quite a name when it comes to more specialised aircraft 🙂  Cheers  Mallard
