REX Addon??

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

back on flight sim after a long break. I am now using P3Dv4 in lieu of FSX. I am starting to build my add ons again so have just purchased ORBX and now I’m looking at weather. What REX product do you recommend?

Rex 4 texture direct seems the best because it includes weather, clouds and even runways. The other newer ones don’t see to have all this

just hoping someone can confirm which product is superior

thanks!

Welcome back mate!

Flightsim pause happens to many of us one day or another. I was in your shoes last november.

For "weather" please note that REX 4 Texture Direct does not have a weather engine.

Sky Force 3D does even if I don't use it. I use Active Sky for P3Dv4.

I recommend Sky Force 3D for the clouds and skies. There is no water or runways textures though.

I'd recommend waiting until next month before making any major purchases; after 13 years, Microsoft has returned to the genera and releasing a new simulator next year.  In August, they’ll release a roadmap.  I just don’t want you to spend thousands of dollars on a platform that may be degraded in a few years.

@kingm56 : your advice makes sense and not throwing too much money into P3D, until we know more about the FS2020 roadmap, is wise.

On the other hand, in another thread, Bob w6kd has also a valid analysis:

Well, *if* Microsoft delivers on a new simulator in 2020, and *if* that is actually the simulator we hope for and not a flight-themed arcade game, and *if* they provide SDK support from the beginning to expose the sim's internals to third-party add-ons, and *if* they truly do partner with quality add-on developers without trying to force them into their own proprietary marketplace arrangement like they attempted to do with Flight, then it will still be years before the add-on makers can re-tool and produce anything close to the depth and variety of what's available right now for P3Dv4.

That's a lot of "ifs" and then a lot of time waiting once such a sim might materialize.  So it boils down to how much use you can get from add-ons purchased now and flown during those years of waiting for something that may or may not pan out.

I think you're safe with P3Dv4 for a good long time still.
