Viva España!

Viva España, Spanish Vacation Hotspots at the Mediterranean Coast!

This flight takes us to Spain, but we depart from Gibraltar, a British Overseas Territory at the southern tip of the Iberian Peninsula.

From here we quickly reach Spain and follow the coast north. We will land at Malaga (LEMG), Granada (LEGR, not really at the coast but worth a visit), Almeria (LEAM), San Javier (LELC),
Alicante (LEAL), Valencia (LEVC), Castellon Costa (LECH), Reus (LERS) and finally Barcelona (LEBL).

We will overfly but not land at the old, smaller Castellon airport LECN.
On our route, we will see other prominent towns and cities like Marbella, Torremolinos, Cartagena, Benidorm, and others. I prepared a Pilot's Guide for this flight with some information about the Points of Interest along our route. Flight Plans and narrative are available here.

ORBX Global, Vector and European Landclas are the recommended sceneries.

I searched for suitable freeware sceneries and found some for each airport we use on this flight.

A note for Valencia: AKESOFT provides a very nice scenery for Valencia, including an update. I could not get the airport to work on my system, therefore I included a link to a simpler version. That works, but with missing taxiway surface...

Here are the links to the sceneries. They are not required but enhance the stock airports:

Wx should be fine this time of the year. If not we could switch to July 21, 12:00 lcl.

Please set your clock to 18:00 lcl for a dusk arrival at Barcelona.

We need to cover about 560 NM, so a cruise speed of about 220 KIAS should be achievable. The PC-12, King Air, Dornier 228 or similar fast airplanes would be good choices. As always, please fly what you like. I will probably take the Carenado Dornier 228 in the Air Acores Livery.

Two suggestions on this week's Viva España scenery.

First, note that the Granada (LEGR) scenery by Peter Hermans is an FSX design and thus, not surprisingly, it lacks the taxiways in P3D. So if you are running P3D, you might install his accompanying "Granada Airport Photoscenery" from FlightSim.com. (legr_photoscenery.zip, here) You simply add the photoscenery photo*.bgl files to the airport's scenery folder and the *.bmp files to the texture folder. This will make the airport look better and, importantly, put a visual image of the taxiways onto the ground. Much better.

Second, the AKISOFT scenery for Valencia (LEVC) is a complicated install for several reasons. If you like, you can get an "expedited install". Look for an email.

Hope this helps.

Gunter,

Great flight today, in an area I don't believe I've flown before!
