September 7, 20196 yr Long time old lurker, first post. Problem is crackling sound. Set up runs audio and video perfectly, except FS9, when run on either XP,7,or 10, then the sound is very crackly, sometimes with an echo. (Currently only windows 10 installed.) I have tried two different NVIDIA cards, GT 710 and GT 1030 and the sound crackles whether the sound output is via the HDMI port to the monitor, or via the onboard integrated sound. Without a GPU card the sound is perfect but the video poor. Set up, (Don't laugh!) Dell Optiplex 745 Intel Q6600 quad core 2.4 GHz 1Tb drive. (It is only a backup for another setup that runs FS9 really well) Any suggestions welcome!!
September 7, 20196 yr Are you running FS9 with unlimited frames? This is an unintended consequence if your processor is rather good (good enough to keep over 100 FPS). Best regards,Luis Hernández Main rig: self built, AMD Ryzen 7 5700X3D (with SMT off and CO -50 mV), 2x16 GB DDR4-3200 RAM, Nvidia RTX 5060Ti 16GB, 256 GB M.2 SSD (OS+apps) + 2x1 TB SATA III SSD (sims) + 1 TB 7200 rpm HDD (storage), ID-Cooling SE-224-XTS air cooler, Viewsonic VX2458-MHD 1920x1080@120-144 Hz (G-sync compatible), Windows 11. Running P3D v5.4 (with v4.5 scenery objects as an additional library, just in case), FSX-SE, MSFS2020, MSFS2024 and even FS9! Lossless Scaling for all my sims. What a godsend...Mobile rig: ASUS Zenbook UM425QA (AMD Ryzen 7 5800H APU @3.2 GHz and boost disabled, 1 TB M.2 SSD, 16 GB RAM, Windows 11 Pro). Running FS9 there .VKB Gladiator NXT Premium Left + GNX THQ as primary controllers. Xbox Series X|S wireless controller as standby/mobile.
September 7, 20196 yr Author Hi Luis, Thanks for the info. I was not aware that setting the frame rate at unlimited would have an effect on the sound. This processor is not that great, and setting the FR at unlimited only gives me around 30 fps, normally I keep it set at 20 to 25 fps. I understand that FS9 only uses one processor core so I guess using one core on a quad is less efficient than using one core on a dual, for instance. Forgot to mention the old Dell does have 8 GB ram. Kind regards. Grun
September 8, 20196 yr I run mine unlimited without the issue. What I have found though is sometimes the sound files become corrupted. I had this happen last week with my 727 fleet. It was the only aircraft that had the issue. I deleted the sound file and reinstalled. Problem fixed. I run an Nvidia 1070 Display port to HDMI on a Samsung 55". My sound comes off the motherboard optical port to a Samsung soundbar with 5.1 surround.
September 9, 20196 yr Author Camsdad, Thanks for your post. At present I have installed only the basic fs 9.... (fresh installation). No add on aircraft or scenery. (Must have installed uninstalled several times now). The Windows 10 is a fresh install, all drivers are up to date, including Nvidia (clean install). What bugs me is I have another set up with an older dual core processor than runs fs 9 loaded with add on aircraft and scenery really well with a 7.1 sound system and a 40 inch Samsung 4k TV / monitor. I am going to check on hardware acceleration next. may need a registry entry from what I have read. Grun
September 9, 20196 yr Author OK cracked the crackling ! In FS 9 Settings / Display / Hardware...I unchecked the Transform and Lighting check box and the crackling went. Just have to get rid of all the Windows 10 'Carp'... Candy crush soda and the like, and should have a usable backup. Grun
September 10, 20196 yr How is FS9 performance after that? All configuration guides I've read mentioned keeping T&L enabled, because it improved performance. However, there are no FS9 guides for Windows 7 or later... However, there are no FS9 guides for Windows 7 or later... It’s hit or miss anymore. I remember the days when Pete would release a new version of FSUIPC and people here said how much it improved frame rates 😁. I use T&L have everything maxed in FS9 I have an i7 9700k Processor overclocked with an Nvidia 1070 GPU. I don’t have any sound issues other than an occasional corrupt file from years of tweaking and updating. With so many configurations, drivers and tweak out there, one fix may not work for someone else. I still find myself tweaking. No one size fits all anymore 🙂
November 3, 20196 yr Author Hi Luis, Camsdad, Been away from the forum and missed your replies. Yes Luis, the frame rate took a hit, and I shelved the investigation pending more Googling! DPC latency seems to be the problem, I ran latency mon and the main culprits listed in the readout are, dxgkrnl.sys (direct x kernel driver) and nvlddmkm.sys (nvidia kernel driver). Both drivers are up to date so I am at a loss when it comes to a solution. The problem is quite widespread it seems. Hey Ho.
