September 8, 20196 yr Good morning I wanted to share an opinion and check if i was wrong or right. I tried both sims and I cannot get 100% satisfied with neither of them. Nevertheless, I might miss something. I will just detail what for me is missing so people who knows can comment: I am missing in P3D : - Global ortho cover. In X plane there are 2 files allowing a Earth zoom 13 cover -Sloped runways -Engine haze exhaust -Free Live traffic (X plane has got a free plugin) -Aiport Life I am missing ijn X plane - Decent 3D cockpit freeware planes for long haul trip - Good engine sounds (I am quite amazed that the engines sounds are so bad) - all the freewares you can find in P3D.Althought the addon community has been developping , ir is not quite as good as P3D -Airport Life Thanks for your comments
September 8, 20196 yr I have the advantage of not paying big attention to the graphics sugar, disabling all stuff that can stolle frames from my flight dynamics engine due to the low end PC I use ( bought for MS FLIGHT in 2012, everybody around here is tired of reading this ... but they tolerate me 🙂 ). So, I would go more for comparisons based on flight dynamics and systems modeling. My list can then get short: XP11 advantages: .) A multitude of features not even by far modeled in core MSFS / P3D flight dynamics engine, even though they are sometimes limited when compared do some combat flight simulation platforms like IL-2 Great Battles which I also play just for the sake of "feel of flight"; Of course having a whole lot of features that we do not even by far see represented in P3D doesn't mean the end result when even a tallented developer uses Plane Maker and Airfoil Maker to build he's models will result in that ultimate realism! A very plain and simple example is, for instance, comparing the default Van's RV-6 default in X-Plane to the default MS FLIGHT Van's RV... where the XP FD engine fails mierably to reproduce the pitching moment due to flap deflection, while the MS FLIGHT does it beautifully... How come such a supposedly sophisticated flight dynamics engine fail in such a basic aspect ? Well, I think the answer is that on both sims fine tunning and "tricks" will always be necessary, and even more "ridiculous", you happen to see some add-ons for X-Plane actually using an "external flight and systems model" because X-plane's core isn't sufficient for them.... But all summed up, the possibilities of simulated features, by default, directly available to developers through Plane-Maker and Airfoil-Maker are astounding! P3D advantages: .) An almost static platform in as far as flight dynamics and systems modelling goes, allowing for developers to easily create their models without surprises from upcoming versions... The most tallented can actually create stuff that is sometimes not so well reproduced in X-Plane, like the simple example above, or use external flight dynamics modeling, just as some already do in X-plane. Being a platform that although "loosing terrain" to X-Plane is / was still the main 3pd platform for years, means a lot of code and dedication was given to it, and some developers have really pushed the limits. This doesn't mean that the same can't happen in X-plane - we just have to give it time, and wait for more & more devs to turn their attention towards X-plane. Final remark: If I had to opt between XP and P3D, without the chance to keep both, I would opt for P3D, simply because it allows me to use it with yet another flight simulator, just for visuals: ELITE IFT. Since I'm given the chance to use both, my go-to Fun civilian flightsim is X-plane, and it is getting better from day to day due to the already HUGE community of freeware developers, the easy configuration, the much more affordable scenery offer it provides for the whole World with a very acceptable quality! BTW, I would be completely surprised in FLIGHT SIMULATOR 2019 announced a new flight and systems modeling engine. My conviction is that at it's core will, at most ( which would be great anyway ) be the MS FLIGHT core for those areas... I enjoyed the nuances in some of the MS FLIGHT models... September 8, 20196 yr Your post is perplexing to me. 2 hours ago, cfukpixie said: - Decent 3D cockpit freeware planes for long haul trip Have you tried the Zibo 737 or ultimate 737? Or for a longer range aircraft, there's a modified B747 on the .org. 2 hours ago, cfukpixie said: - Good engine sounds (I am quite amazed that the engines sounds are so bad XP11 has FMOD sound engine which is very advanced. However not all default aircrafts use it at the moment. I think only the C172 and the B737? 2 hours ago, cfukpixie said: - all the freewares you can find in P3D.Althought the addon community has been developping , ir is not quite as good as P3D Actually there's more freeware available for XP than for P3D, both in terms of aircrafts and scenery. There are also a lot of free plugins for XP. Have you checked x-plane.org ? "Society has become so fake that the truth actually bothers people".
