Man in Jeep releases stuck gear

Featured Replies

I once saw a video of the same some years ago, though this time it was one mechanic in a pickup truck, and the aircraft was a Piper Arrow. He reached up with his hands and got the partially extended gear down.Regards,http://www.dreamfleet2000.com/gfx/images/F...R_FORUM_LOU.jpg

LOL Lou, who hasnt seen that video?

One of the networks had the footage on last night. They had to shove the gear pretty far forward to get it to lock into position.Of course the TV news guy had to show his intelligence by saying the FAA would investigate to see if any safety procedures were violated.Lets see - land with one gear collapsed - or try something unusual.Guess which I'd prefer.Wish I had the old footage of the US Navy C-121 doing a tail dragger landing at Atsugi in the mid-60s. That was imaginative.

"Of course the TV news guy had to show his intelligence by saying the FAA would investigate to see if any safety procedures were violated."As a pilot for 30 years, what makes you think this was just a comment by a news reporter, as opposed to what very likely will take place? It WILL take place, and you can be certain they will look to fine and suspend licenses. That is the way it is these days.Right now the FAA is going after a pilot for violating the Washington DC ADIZ.Only one problem. This pilot was flying his Mooney in Arizona at the time, and already has ample evidence to prove that he was, including ATC tower recordings.Join AOPA and also read AVWEB.com, and you will find out that truth is often stranger than fiction when it comes to the FAA and the actions they take. That "news guy" was very likely speaking the truth.Regards,http://www.dreamfleet2000.com/gfx/images/F...R_FORUM_LOU.jpg

Maybe I wasn't clear - of course there is an FAA and/or NTSB investigation. The TV news guy went out of his way to point out that BECAUSE of the unusual method there would be an investigation. He strongly implied that had the plane landed gear up - there would be NO investigation.
