FSX virtual cockpit preset views

Featured Replies

I don't have the beta, but I'm wondering how many preset views there are in the virtual cockpit. In the demo there was the left seat, right seat, engine controls, radio panel and overhead. Are there others that can be created by the user for each specific plane? I personally would like three from the left seat alone such as head up for VFR, head down for IFR and a third for landing.

I took a look at this tonight and the camera system is OUTRIGHT COOL!You can define *ANY* view you wish and save them in the config file. What I couldn't find though is a way to set them up in the simulator and save them from there. But there is a file called cameras.cfg where the fsx.cfg file is in the Documents & Settings folder. The format of the camera's is as such:CameraDefinition.001Title = CockpitGuid = {B1386D92-4782-4682-A137-738E25D1BAB5}Description = This is the description of the cockpit viewOrigin = CockpitShowPanel = YesSnapPbhAdjust = OrdinalSnapPbhReturn = TruePanPbhAdjust = OrdinalPanPbhReturn = TrueTrack = NoneShowAxis = FrontOnlyAllowZoom = TRUEInitialZoom = 0.6SmoothZoomTime = 2.0ShowWeather = YesXyzAdjust = TRUEShowLensFlare=FALSECategory = CockpitHotKeySelect=2You can define all the *DEFAULT* camera views as such in this camera.cfg file. Then in *EACH* Simobject model you can define unlimited different camera views for them individually as such:CameraDefinition.001Title = "Right Seat"Guid = {195EAB58-9E4A-1E2A-A34C-A8D9D948F078}Origin = Virtual CockpitMomentumEffect = YesSnapPbhAdjust = SwivelSnapPbhReturn = FalsePanPbhAdjust = SwivelPanPbhReturn = FalseTrack = NoneShowAxis = YESAllowZoom = TRUEInitialZoom = 0.60SmoothZoomTime = 2.0ZoomPanScalar = 1.0ShowWeather = YesXyzAdjust = TRUEShowLensFlare=FALSECategory = CockpitPitchPanRate=20HeadingPanRate=60InitialXyz=0.5, 0.04, -0.1InitialPbh=0, 0, 0Pretty cool huh? ;-)

You can create as many as you want for each aircraft.

Thank you for your reply, I'm still a bit confused on one point. Are you able to create a camera view with a visual reference as it's being created? Or is it adjusting the various numerical values in a blind sort of way, then checking the sim to see if it's what you want? If there's a visual reference, then I will love this! If I have to adjust numerical values blindly for each plane, this could take me a very long time.

I think what you would be tweaking most are these lines:InitialXyz=0.54, 0.0, 0.28InitialPbh=65.0, 0, 0The first line would define the position of the camera. The second would define the view direction, in Pitch, Bank?, and Heading. I think. One thing I'm not sure about from the Demo is how you determine what to use for the GUID. (GUIDs are supposed to be unique, but I'm not sure what the scope of them would be in FSX. In otherwords, I don't know if it just has to be unique in the aircraft.cfg, unique to FSX, or unique to the computer. The larger the scope, the more careful you might have to be 'cause I don't have a clue what would happen if, for instance, you used the GUID of the recycle bin. :) There's probably more info on it in the SDK.)"Let me help you out. You're cleared to taxi any way you can to any runway you see."

It is essentially a random number... With the number of possibilities in the trillions, it's unlikely you would generate a duplicate, unless you were only modifying the last digit and "hoping for the best..." :-lol

By creating, you mean by editing the .cfg file? Is it possible to create a view with a visual reference from within the sim?

Not in the box, but I'm sure a clever 3rd party developer will come up with something.
