David,
I am another user like you.  I have spent countless hours responding to questions pertaining to flight plan imports.  I am recently finding a low level of energy rewriting help that I have previously posted.  Please spend some time of your own looking through previous message topics here pertaining to flight plan imports.  The help you seek is already there.  If you merely back up to the list of topics in this GNS section you will see a couple of what we call pinned topics listed among the first five or so.  One deals with Flight Planners and it likely has relevant posts in it.  The other is specifically about importing files into the RXP GTN gauges.

Also, spend some time with the RXP GTN User Manual.  You will find it listed in your Windows Start menu under Reality XP.

Thanks Frank......I finally figured it out.......I had a typo in my FPL path that I had created.....Just didnt realize it would not even show the screen for import without that directory structure being intact...

Being as that is pretty much a required requisite I am curious as to why that structure is not included by default on install.....

I am a convert to RXP due to requirements from my Realsimgear interfaces.....I was previously using a competitor product which was far easier to get up and running.

Thanks for your help,

David

We require the user to manually create the folder, which enables the 'import flight plan' feature, at least for these 4 reasons:

  • some exotic user system and/or software may badly interact and potentially ruin just launching the trainer because of this folder mere presence. We rather be safe than sorry.
  • some users don't need nor use this feature and this saves resources loading and starting up the trainer
  • some users prefer using a folder, some others a shortcut. Creating the folder during installation would make the others miss the opportunity to further evaluate their options. Creating the shortcut during installation would add the problem of defining where is the shortcut pointing at
  • some users manage 'banks' of flight plans in separate folders and they manually update the shortcut link to one of them prior their sessions.
  • etc...

If you need the feature, it is a mere 1 minute setup to tailor it exactly as you want.
