October 9, 200619 yr I was wondering if it's possible to input long/lat coordinates into the Garmin GPS to use as a waypoint? I know that I can input VOR designations and airport IDs into the system, but I want to be able to input coordinates for certain tourist attractions. For example, I want to fly around Mount Rushmore and Devil's Tower but don't know how to navigate to them any other way other than GPS coordinates that i could input into the Garmin. It would be great if someone knew how to do this so i could finally see Mount Rushmore in the sim! Thanks.Dave
October 9, 200619 yr Yeah I am also interested to see if this can be done, and for the exact same reason. So far I have been able to find the sphinx fairly easily and mount rushmore after about 2 hours lol. But it would be much easier to find with coordinates.
October 9, 200619 yr I haven't tried it - but what you can do it drag the aircraft course line to a place where you want a waypoint in the FSX flightplanner - and a new temporary waypoint will be created.Your GPS will then follow that course to that waypoint.
October 9, 200619 yr That wont do as i have no idea where it's located along the flightpath hence the need for the actual coordinates. Im sure that the Garmin 430, 500 and G1000 have the ability to input coordinates for waypoints or they wouldnt be much good otherwise. Im going to try and read the users manuals and see if i can figure it out.
October 9, 200619 yr Well i downloaded the instructions for the g1000 but the user waypoint information page is mysteriously missing from the waypoint page group? Same goes with the gps500. This functionality is missing from flightsim for inputting manual coordinates into these devices for whatever reason. I shift z'd it and flew to mount rushmore using those coordinates and finally found it. No way i would have found that thing without coordinates. I wonder why aces removed the user waypoint menu from their g1000 implementation? Seems like a pretty important function. The vor, ndb, intersection, airport, etc menus are all there but no user waypoint menu...
October 9, 200619 yr I downloaded the garmin 400/500 simulator and those user menus do indeed exist and work as advertised. Aces just chose not to implement many of the features of these units into fsx *grrr*. Hopefully some 3rd party company will have an accurate representation of a glass cockpit or at the very least a totally functional gns430/ gps 500. I wonder if eaglesoft's addons are accurate with this?
October 10, 200619 yr "I wonder if eaglesoft's addons are accurate with this?"Not sure what you are asking? If you mean our GNS System as used in our Cirrus/Columbia/Liberty Series the answer is no. They are based on FS9/FSX database and functionality.
