Guideline to test FPS

Featured Replies

Hi,

Dispite all posts, i do not get a good way to test FPS; i push shft Z and get the red values, but these values are always flickering between 14 and 38, even with FSL airbus at runway and doing nothing. Found some post about the use of average values and not these real time values,  but how to display average ?

Found cfg setting to display average rate, but this value does not change much when trying different settings, even with traffic sliders from 0 to 100, stays at 28, no change. AA settings, V sync on/off, HDR etc... i have changed all these parameters to find out best settings but the average goes from 27.2 tot 28.8, thats all i can obtain... normal ?

Hi

There is an avsim guide to configure p3d, you can find it here: https://www.avsim.com/files/file/87-avsim-prepar3d-guide/

Do you meet the minimum requirements of p3dv4? What is your pc?

The more add ons you add and use at the same time in P3D the worse fps you get.

Shadows, traffic, HDR, treespeed, a high level of detail, tessellation, modern aircraft with screens, textures with PBR., Water detail, dynamic lightings, high AA value, resolution of your monitor, are factors that detract performance to your pc.

Use MSI afterburner to monitor your PC so you will know how it behaves while using P3D, it also brings an application called rivatuner, from which you can limit the fps to 30, 60 etc ...  https://www.guru3d.com/files-details/msi-afterburner-beta-download.html

The first thing to do is use P3Dv4 by default, that is, without add ons and check how many fps you get and how your PC behaves, and even use the settings to a minimum and gradually upload them to know from what point they affect to performance

Cheers

Thx for reaction; my PC is i7 with GTX980ti, so not bad i think, but even when i try P3Dv4 and loading the trike Piper cub, i get an average FPS of 34 FPS. What concerns me is that this average value does not change much; from very light use (pipercub) to the heavy FSLabs at FSDT New York JFK airport, my FPS only goes from 34 to 31. This loss of only 3 fps at heavy use is not much but i should get instead rates of + 60 when only using a simple trike at a standard P3D airstrip no ?

@Pluto7777

without a doubt, something is not working well in your configuration, if you use the nv inspector check it and adjust it by default.

There is an excellent fps graphing utility in the AVSIM library that I use all the time, particularly when demonstrating how different things affect FPS.

Search the Library for " JAB FPSx ". It's located in the Flight Simulator X Utilities section, but it works very well for P3Dv4.

Best wishes.
