January 6, 20206 yr So, I have an iPad Air 2 that I love use for charts and some EFB stuff. I recently got the CDU for the ngxu and absolutely love it! It makes inputing things so much easier and accessible, especially when flying online. However, I find switching between applications a bit tedious and distracting at times and want to get a cheap tablet that will do the trick for the CDU. I know being browser based, this allows to have a lower end device. Which makes getting cheap, that used to be good hardware (ie.: facebook marketplace pickups/refurbs) for a steal, easy. My questions are: What size format would you recommend? What's your "go to" device for a CDU? What's the native resolution of the images used in the browser? Thanks! Anthony Fluhart
January 6, 20206 yr I bought a couple of refurbished 32GB iPad 2 tablets a couple years ago at MicroCenter for about $90 each. They worked well as dedicated CDUs. The 787 made me rethink that, though, and now I use a single 12.9" iPad Pro in landscape mode, which can do two CDUs side-by-side using split-screen mode in Safari, or the wider-format 787 MFD. Unfortunately, I haven't seen any of the big iPad Pros being sold as refurbs on the cheap yet. January 7, 20206 yr Commercial Member Indeed, 'bigger is better' is probably right 🙂 It makes 'hitting' the right controls easier. When I started development in 2015, I used a 7 inch tablet. It was ok, but you really had to concentrate to hit the right buttons. I bought a used 10 inch Samsung tablet a year ago and that's been working great for the CDU. If you want to use the Overhead, you might want to consider an even bigger tablet (or a large touch screen). Note - the important part is that whatever device you get, it still gets updates for it's operating system + browser (Chrome or Safari). Mark Foti Author of aviaworx - https://www.aviaworx.com
