January 12, 20206 yr I purchased a Rift S to see if the visual quality and improvements in SDE were better than the CV1 to warrant $360. I have had the CV1 since it came out and have hundreds of hours using it in P3D. Setup of the RIft S was very easy. Visual quality was better than the CV1, but, not by a bunch. SDE was less than the CV1, but, was still present. SDE was about 50% less visible. Rift S was very comfortable, even when wearing glasses. If I had kept it I would not have needed to purchase prescription lenses for it, just wear my glasses. I use a DOF Reality H3 motion platform. One of the issues with VR and motion platforms is the VR's loss of its home position with movement of the motion platform. I was hoping the Rift S with its inherent tracking cameras would not suffer from this loss of home position. Alas, the Rift S was actually worse than the Rift CV1 with its towers. With all that determined, I decided the Rift S, while an improvement, was not enough of an improvement to warrant spending the money. Danny
January 12, 20206 yr I considered building a VR motion platform. It occured to me that the seat would have to have a large panel at least attached to the platform in front of the seat with a high contrast pattern on it other wise the inside out tracking of a VR headset might interpret the platform motion as head movement. I don't think that would work. Any after discovering that headsets typically use accelerometers as well as as cameras I decided to shelve the idea
