I remember the Avianca 707 crash in Long Island on approach to JFK where they were constantly handed over to other controllers and had to make clear every time they were low on fuel and had to land asap. As far as I remember the pilots also failed to make sufficiently clear it was a full-blown emergency, but the number of hand overs and the fact the controllers didn't pass on information about the flight played a significant role in that accident.
