I have encountered the following problem:

When I click on the metal levers nest to the throttles to release the throttles, they immediately go into reverse -am I clicking on the wrong spot?

Yes. The reverser levers are in front of the throttles and the unlock levers are behind the throttles.

I setup a chaseplane camera just for those levers. makes it much easier.
