Awesome FSX FPS fix!

To set the FSX autogen to the same limits as FS9, use:TERRAIN_MAX_AUTOGEN_TREES_PER_CELL=600TERRAIN_MAX_AUTOGEN_BUILDINGS_PER_CELL=300If you then combine that tweak with the Matt Fox edited AutogenDescriptions.spb you should get an identical autogen experience to FS9.I like the fact that ACES have allowed these parameters to be edited, because for most of us, we can keep autogen at FS9 levels and slowly creep up the limits as we acquire new hardware.

Sounds great, but where is this FSX.CFG file? It doesn't exist in either my FSX folder or my My Documents FSX folder!HELP!

Instead of tweaking down, I have tweaked up ;); I set the upper limit of the trees at 6000, which is the maximum acceptable value. Kept the buildings at 3000.On my machine, with no water and minimum AI, I still get good rates for VFR flying.

> Instead of tweaking down, I have tweaked up..Are you totally nuts?!

Well, what do you have of a machine, Cray? :)

The game runs great on later hardware if you aren't near a city like New York.

This could almost be considered a "magic bullet", as far as I'm concerned. It's in regards to a post made by an ACES team member. All you do is put these two lines in the [Terrain] section of the FSX.CFG file:TERRAIN_MAX_AUTOGEN_TREES_PER_CELL=4500TERRAIN_MAX_AUTOGEN_BUILDINGS_PER_CELL=3000Those are the default settings. They (as far as I know) represent the autogen density at max settings. If you simply lower those values, say to about 450 for the first and 300 for the second, you get somewhat lower autogen density levels at max, and at sparse or normal you still get lower than you would at minimum default settings!!!I tried the above and got a massive increase in FPS. You do have to sacrifice some autogen, but really it still looks a LOT better than no autogen. As far as I'm concerned this is almost a magic bullet. I was a bit frustrated at the fact that the autogen was still incredibly dense at "very sparse" settings. Also, if you don't want any autogen buildings to show up, just set the second line to 0. No need to delete any files! Now, I'm looking forward to downloading the tweak whereby the autogen textures are of a smaller size (without compromising any obvious loss of detail), which will further increase my FPS, allowing me to set the density higher still!I'm a most happy FSX'er.Oh, and for the whingers/whiners who feel that it's not possible to get good performance with current hardware, check out the video in this post: http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho...id=356918&page=James

Geofa,I dont have any version of FSX yet so I cant try this but I was thinking...isnt this what you were looking for in the first place? To remove auto gen buildings but keep trees. Have you tried or can you set buildings to a small number or zero and get the effect that you are looking for?Feedback please.
