PC-12 reverse thrust

Featured Replies

I am using Carenado PC-12 v1.3 on XPLane11 build 11.41.

There doesn't seem to be a dedicated PC-12 / XPlane11 forum so I am asking here about a shortcut key for thrust reversers.

First, I had the key <F2> working about a year ago to activate thrust reversers.

Then I had a drive crash and reinstalled windows 10 and XPlane 11. Now I find that key - or any other - does not work.

I can manually move the throttle back to the reverse position and reverse works as it should.

But no key or key combination I have tried - and I've tried dozens - will work.

I've tried all the items in Engines-Thrust Reverse, Engines-Throttle, Engines-Basic-Toggle Thrust reversers, etc.

My joystick throttle does not have a detent for reverse so I'd really like to hit a key for reverse on landing.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Doug

Map a key for reducing throttle. Place the throttle at idle, then activate the mapped key. From idle, the reduce throttle command will move through reverse

I assume you mean the "Throttle down a bit for engine #<n>" under the Engines section in keyboard assignments.
That doesn't work for me in the PC-12 v1.3. The throttle reduces but stops at the reverse gate.
Is that the aircraft you've tried in on?
I'm going to reinstall the PC-12 and play around some more. This used to work.
Thanks for the help.

You can assign "Toggle (or Hold) Thrust Reverse at Max #1" to a joystick or keyboard button. Then after the throttle is reverse.

But the problem with Carenado PC12 is that the yaw is very unstable when in full reverse power...

Reinstalled. F2 now toggles reverse on.
Next action is counter-intuitive. You land, throttle BACK to idle, hit F2, reverse now in play,
now throttle goes FORWARD to slow down.
Real aircraft of course it's throttle back to the "gate", lift up, throttles back further to slow down.
Anyway, got it working.

Are there any joysticks that mimic this action?

I know yokes have a detent at idle and then more back motion starts reverse. Just don't want to mess with setting up a proper yoke station each time.

Thanks for the help.

Yes you are correct. I forgot to add that part. Once reverse pitch is applied, you need to add power by going forward with the throttle to apply the reverse. Not the way it works in real world ( well, sort of...you ARE increasing the throttle in real world, only you are applying the throttle increase by continuing to move backwards. Throttle is actually applying the same as normal, only now the prop blades are in reverse pitch)

That's a bug with all x-plane default aircraft AFAIR.  Even on their airliners the thrust levers are moving forward when applying reverse thrust. On most jets the are separate reverse thrust levers which are controlling the amount of reverse thrust while the thrust levers stay in the idle position.

So even if you find the throttle quadrant, like the virtual-fly TQ6, reverse operation is only realistic for turboprops.
