Reality XP GTN 750 black screen - partial success

Featured Replies

Okay, partial success. 🙂

Window shows up and GTN starts working.

System on panel starts up, too. Buttons are effective, but screen on panel remains dark.

Could I please get a hint how to do the settings? Tried a couple of true / false combinations, but didn't work out.

Thanks!

Hi,

Do you mean the popup window works fine but nothing appears on the 3D panel?

What aircraft? What XP11version?

I feel Jean-Luc's concern. Please. If you post an issue please at least provide enough detail so that you can reasonably expect to receive help.

Sorry!

X-Plane version is 11.41

I tried a couple of aircraft. Screenshots below.

:: JRollon-SIAI-SF260 / GTN750_1
:: Laminar B58 Std. / GTN750_1
:: Laminar C90B / GTN750_1
:: Airfoillabs C350 King
All of them:

- No panel integration
- GTN starts in popup window

:: Carenado F33A Bonanza Std. / both GTN750_1 and GTN750_2
- Panel integration okay
- GTN starts in popup window
- Screen in panel remains dark

:: Carenado F33A Bonanza + REP / GTN750_1
- Panel integration okay
- GTN in popup window remains dark
- Screen in panel remains dark

:: Carenado B1900D / GTN750_1
- No panel integration
- No popup window

:: Carenado B1900D / GTN750_2
- No panel integration
- GTN starts in popup window
- Screen in panel remains dark

I'm not a meag insider. So I admit, many of the instructions I read about how to integrate into panel are a bit beyond my horizon.
With the F33A I changed 'visible' and 'nobezel' in the RealityXP.GTN.INI in the [GTN_750_1.PANELS] section - no effect.

I'm flying VR, so working just with the window is not really an option, either.

Gelfling

Thank you for these nice screenshots and the information.

There are 2 factors at play:

  1. The panel showing a GTN bezel in 3D or not
  2. The GTN screen displaying something or not.

The former depends on the aircraft and whether their 3D model includes (or not) a 3D bezel, as well as whether, they detect automatically the GTN is running and dynamically change the 3D panel (like with Carenado) or, they use a 'config' tool to swap models (maybe some of the other aircraft you're trying).

The later depends on the GTN settings as found in the RealityXP.GTN.ini. Most cases of 3D panel showing a power-off device are usually because the setting "visible" is off (self-explanatory), and/or because the setting frame.rect = is wrong.

The "frame.rect" setting, like it is explained in the RXP User's Manual, tells X-Plane the coordinates to draw the GTN screen onto. Sometimes, it seems some aircraft make the setting revert to =0,0,0,0 (which self-explains as empty rectangle). In this case usually reinstalling the original .ini file from the aircraft installer, or, looking up for updated .ini file in the aircraft vendor forum is enough to solve this.

Our products include a facility which permit 3rd party aircraft vendor to ensure default settings and protected setting which prevent this from happening. It is documented both in the manual and directly one-to-one to some others, but it seems most if not all still don't protect the settings accordingly. You might want to lobby them as well.

Thanks a lot for the speedy reply. But I'm afraid you leave me more puzzled than before.

Even though I've been playing XP now for about a year I never encountered a 'config' tool.

About the frame.rect setting I wouldn't know how to find suitable parameters. I searched the Carenado support side but couldn't find anything.

Perhaps I may start with what I understood -

  1. I found some contributions, e.g. a YT video on the standard Laminar C172, that explain how simple it is to install the RXP GTN. Now, this guy had no problems in showing the panel with contents.
  2. I uninstalled, reinstalled, following the advice.
  3. I notice, the "RealityXP.GTN.ini" is created the very moment I try to launch GTN750 from the plugin menu.
  4. I also noticed in an neighbor thread, that the "RealityXP.GTN.ini" are looking ... different.
    Thread was this one: GTN750 Screen Blank in 3D Cockpit XP11
  5. I tried both, the standard Laminar C172 and the Carenado F33A.

So, here are my results:

:: Standard Laminar C172:
C172_RealityXP.GTN.ini Note: I tried with "visible = true" in the [GTN_750_1.PANELS] section - same result:

C172.PNG

So I tried the F33A:
F33A_RealityXP.GTN.ini

F33A_2.PNG

Comparing the two *.ini files I may oversee it, but there seems to be no difference.

Also I do not understand why in other systems it seems to work. Could there be something that prohibits the plugin to fetch the right parametes? Since there seems to be a default *.ini installed at launching the GTN?

Please understand - I know a bit about airplanes. Less so about the depths of Windows or how X-Plane is really working, I'm afraid.

Greetings,
Norbert

@Gelfling Hi, you might want to have a look in this discussion to guide you within the ini file:

In addition you might want to also read this one which will help you further understand the meaning behind these parameters:
