April 8, 20206 yr I have been planning to wait until 3080Ti arrives after putting together my new build last month but alas since picking up the GPU-eating NGXu I'm reconsidering a bridge solution that perhaps I can sell when 3080Ti finally shows up which it appears will be sometime between late August and forever! Right now I need to stop the sim regularly to readjust the major GPU related lighting sliders and even World scenery sliders. I hardly need to do this w/ PMDG 777 but this guy is really demanding. I'm at the gate in lowly KRNO at pre-dawn. GPU load sitting at 88%. OK, fine. Then I turn up the background lighting dial one click and GPU goes up to 84%, then the other MCP light on one click, up to 99%. Not a happy thing. Same same if I just turn right in the VC looking at the FO's area and thereby seeing the whole VC cockpit--right up to 100% boom. So right now RTX2080 Super is affordable and according to Passmark is right at double the performance in that benchmark between my current GTX Titan, and the 2080 Super. That should help substantially even if the benchmark isn't the right surrogate for P3D. I'm only on 3440x1440 and the highest VRAM usage I've seen so far was ~5400mb, on my 6Gb Titan. So at 8Gb, seems for my purposes I won't run low on VRAM. What I wonder though is the role of the 256-bit bus (w/ GDDR6) does with perhaps playing a role in the quite rare but recurrent 'long frames' I get now. Is it something worth considering in this, or is it safe to assume it probably won't come into play in P3D? 2080Ti is getting too near double the price of Super. I don't like the fact air does not vacate the case on these designs now, though I see a one-fan model that looks like it might, but the fan apparently is rather loud. If you have this card in P3D 4.5 please feel free to comment and thank you to the fellow who already did. April 8, 20206 yr I think VRAM is going to matter way more in P3DV5. The FSDT had a small demo kicking around on the forum with comments. 5800X3D, 4090FE, 64GB DDR4 3600C16, Gigabyte X570S MB, EVO 970 M.2's, Alienware 3821DW and 2 22" monitors, Corsair RM1000x PSU, 360MM MSI MEG, MFG Crosswind, T16000M Stick, Boeing TCA Yoke/Throttle, Skalarki MCDU and FCU, Logitech Radio Panel/Switch Panel, Spad.Next
