April 12, 20206 yr All I am currently rebuilding my office and have been looking at the pending release of P3D V5 and FS2020 and thought i would do a health check on my system. Traditionally i have built my own but would be happy to look at some pre built options if they are reasonable. Can someone in the know let me know how far off the mark my current set up is in my signature strip below. Its nearly 4 years old now. April 13, 20206 yr A performance PC for simming today will have 8 physical cores at around the 5 GHz mark compared to your 4 at 4GHZ, a 2000-series nVidia video card with 8 or 11GB of VRAM compared to your 1080 with 4GB, 16 or 32GB of 3600MHz or faster RAM (with a low CAS latency) compared to your 3000 MHz RAM. So double the processors, with all of them running 25% faster, even assuming little improvement in IPC, is a big difference. Both will be DX12 applications, so GPU is likely to make more of a difference now...4GB VRAM may prove limiting at resolutions above 1920x1080. How much either new sim will leverage those improvements is still unknown...we'll start getting a much better idea starting tomorrow when P3Dv5 releases, or maybe next year (hopefully) when MSFS releases. I can tell you that moving from a quad-core 7700K at 4.8GHz to a 6-core 8086K at 5.3GHz and/or an 8-core 9900K at 5.0 GHz was definitely worth doing when running P3Dv4.
